I put full synthetic Castrol Syntec in my 350X. The API Service Classification on the bottle says SM/CF. AFTER doing that, I looked in the owner's manual. It calls for API Service class SE/SF.
Has anyone ever run into trouble due to full synthetic? I think it might not correctly lube my clutch plates (too slippery). Please tell me your experience.
Thanks.

It caused my clutch plates to slip before, but I ran out of oil and had no other choice.

These machines should NEVER have synthetic put in them. Last I heard it is disastrous for the clutches and other parts. I remember a small engine mechanic telling me that years ago.

you can absolutely run full synthetic in a 4 poke, just get amsoil 20w-50 designed to work in liquid or air cooled 4 strokes, it's motorcycle oil meant to be good to the clutch (wet or dry). i have been running it 4 10 years+ it's good stuff and will actually make your clutch last longer. just be sure when and if you buy it to get the motorcycle 20w-50.

Mobil1 makes a damned fine full synthetic for wet clutch systems. I just bought a case to keep on hand.

In my TRX450R I ran Honda syn with moly additive on the engine side and with out moly additive on the clutch side. The moly additive would have made the clutch slip but I didn't run that on the clutch side.

Dang that had to set you back some. That stuff is around $9 a quart right? I ran it in the YFZ450 I had for a while.

I run Royal Purple in my 350x and have shortly after since I got it. Trust me, it hasn't caused a single problem yet and the bike seems to run a lot cooler.
The Royal Purple website addresses the wet clutch issue (that it won't hurt them) and from what I've experienced, they're right.

Rode my 350X in very hard conditions with the full syn. It handled the heat well. I couldn't get it out of 1st gear for 4 mi.(very rough terrian) Checked my filter and had some small sludge spots form. Now, wether that was from the old oil quagulating or some old deposits coming loose I'm not sure. The clutch did slip alittle but under a hard launch. Much better protection. Might make old seals seep cause of oil penatration. Thats right I said penatration.....Beets

48 dollars, now to hide it with my full synthetic car oil so it doesn't end up pilfered for someones oil can. Nothing worse than finding the empty jug of your 30 dollar a gallon oil...

Yup that's exactly what they tell ya at the dealer. As long as as it doesn't have moly in it it's usually wet clutch compatible.
