I am sure there is a thread on here somewhere like this. I can't find it. If anyone could post a link to it or just post pics of your 85-86 250R trikes with different color plastics. I picked up another 85R today for a super cheap price. It is a little ratty so I am trying to get some ideas. On the plastic, I don't know if I should buy new Maier Red or go with white or black. If I go red, I will put the plastic off my current trike on this new one and put the new plastic on my other 85 R. Like I said, I am also tossing around the idea of black and white too. I just don't know what those colors would look like with the blue seat and red frame. White would probably look pretty cool, not sure if the blue and red would go with black or not. Post up some pics if you have a 85 or 86 R with black or white plastic.

On your black 85, did you have to paint the tank or did you find a black one?

I picked up this 85 a few days ago. My other 85 is pretty clean and has fairly new plastics on it. If I stay with red, I will put the new ones on my other one and put those on this new one. I am waiting on a chain right now. It strarts up and runs, but I want to ride it before I go sticking a bunch of money into it.

Do they still make them? I have looked around a little and most companies do not make a lot for these trikes anymore. I was suprised that Maier plastic is still readily available.

On your black 85, did you have to paint the tank or did you find a black one?

its painted I manage to make it last about a year before I had problems, the main problem is tanks are made of polytheylene witch is a breathable plastic, so most paint bubbles or falls off due to gas fumes.

I primed the tank using a water borne primer, wich is impervious to fumes then simply painted on top, in the end it lasted really well but as it became dryer or the course of the year it bacame brittle and finaly it was time for it togo.

Hopefully the mosh's will have tank covers made up soon for people who want them.

Oh hell yeah! Maier makes just about all trike plastic not all but close. Clarke will make a tank any color you want and Honda still offers their tanks brand new but only in black. I believ Fullbore Plastic makes an updated rear fender for the 85-86 250r.

That yellow is pretty cool. I haven't seen a yellow R before. At first glace, I thought it was a Z. That's awesome.

Thanks for the link to Clarke. I didn't know they still made tanks for the trikes. Now I really don't know what color to go with. I was leaning more towards red so I wouldn't have to paint a tank. I think black or white either one would look awesome.

I like that. This is more of what I was looking to see. It really looks good using the red fuel tank. That was something I questioned. I have an extra seat that the cover is trashed on. I could recover it with a black cover or something. I don't think the original blue would go good with black and red and I don't want to cover a seat with a good original cover. I like that black and red. Do you have any more pics?

That is awesome too. Did you have to paint your tank? Where did you get blue plastics?

Custom ordered ten sets of Reflex Blue plastics through Maier with the help of Louis Mielke. Accidently ordered the tank in the old navy blue through Clarke. All plasctics are molded in color. No paint. I have one set of Blues plastics left but I am keeping those for later. I believe Louis has one or two more sets for sale. You'll have to check with him. Maier will do the 250R plastics in any color you want but you have to order ten sets. Cost is about $3600.00. Keep two sets sell the rest for around $400.00 a set and you end up paying around $400.00 for the two sets you keep.

I didn't know you could have any color molded from Maier. Thats cool know. 3600 is a lot to tie up in plastic. If I had that many R's, I would probably do it.

Find someone or a few peeps to go in with you. Keeps the cost down and re-coop some money by selling the rest of the sets. Like I said I only have about $400.00 in the two sets I kept after selling the others. $200.00 a set is a killer price.

I assume you have to buy 10 of the same color right? Can't mix and match..
