View Full Version : 84 200X Needle Jet size?

I used a rebuild kit on my carb when I did my restoration and used the needle jet that it came with (as well as the pilot and 110 main). Well it runs very rich blowing black smoke, it does run though. I lower the needle all the way down (clip on top groove) and that has seems to clear the smoke at idle but as soon as I give it any throttle the smoke flies again. I'm thinking the new needle (104?) is too narrow and since I lost the original I have nothing to compare it to. Can anyone tell me what the stock size is supposed to be? And why does the needle and clip cost $35 at the dealer and online? I'm hoping I can buy the needle on its own for cheaper.

Thanks

I can check this weekend some time. I have my '84 carb on my work bench and it has the stock needle.

you should not be using a 110 main. you shoudl have a 95-105 MAX. 110 is for a high comp racing setup.

isn't 108 the stock size for the 83-85 200x, normal altitude?

100 is, then 105 for sea level and 98 for high up if I recall correctly. i'm runnign a very hot top end that's way more powerful than a stocker 200x and I'm using a 105 jet. so i think 110 is too big. that's for more like a 250 sx or es.

intersting i never seen an eariler year one come with a 110. the 86-87 one had a 110, but they also stuch a mroe agressive cam in it if I recall. but that's cool.

well looks like we were both wrong.

manual says #122 or #112. wow never saw that 1 comming. weird!

on #122 it says needle jet on 2nd clip from top
on #112 it says needle jet on 3rd clip (middle one)

pilot screw open 2 full turns

keep on mind these #'s are for na 86+ so they may be a slight bit mor ethan the 85 and eariler as the 86+ they made a cam change and looks like a valve size change maybe?.

My '84 has a needle that says 1EA on it. No other markings that I can see. 110 main.

I am in the middle of rebuilding my 84 200X carb and the main is a 110. My pilot screw was bottomed out (I can see someone was in there) and now I don't know where to adjust the pilot screw to, the Service Manual says to document the number of turns turning disassembly. The reason why I am rebuilding the carb (besides age) is; after the motor gets to operating temp, it is very difficult to restart. The needle was in the 3rd position and the Service manual says it should be in the 4th opsition

Anyone got an idea where to start jetting? 1985 200x,10:1 .050 over,xr200r cam, ported head, ported intake and aftermarket exhaust. i have a brand new 26mm mikuni. Currently it has 38 pilot and 95 main. This should be rather lean for motor mods i have. I am new to this site, dont even know how to post pics of my stuff.

I bet you will be really lean, you will probably end up around a 110 main.
