My trizinger has some wierd problems. When I bought the bike I noticed that one of the connectors coming out of the CDI was unplugged. It was a black one with red stripe. So I plugged it into the only available plug. Before I had plugged it in, the trike ran the same in both START and RUN modes. After I plugged it in, the trike only idled in START and ran in RUN. After a short while of running the bike with the cable plugged in the trike gave up on me. It stopped running in the middle of screaming down a path. I unplugged the cable and lo-and-behold the trike ran again. So, I tried plugging the cable back in, and that worked also. But, after a few minutes, it died again. After switching back and forth a number of times the trike eventually gave up and would no longer run.

Also:
My trike has never run exactly correct. It always has run kind of choppy in that it cuts in and out, speeding up and slowing down but never dying. Full speed is rarely possible to achieve because the trike acts like it has a governor on it (which it may indeed have). Doesn't this sound a lot like symptoms of having the choke on? Well, I believe the choke may have been on. There is a snap lever attached to a cable that runs to the carb. I am assuming this is the choke. I could notice no difference in the way the trike ran with the lever pulled or relaxed. Is the choke on or off with the lever pulled?

Any ideas on where to begin?(besides getting a manual, I will definately do that asap, any suggestions on which one?)

Thanks

cdi could be bad. it could be heating up and cutting out... is it a tri z 250 or trizinger 60?

Its choked with the lever pulled.

Now that its not running do you have any spark? Also try it with a new plug. The zinger normally will not start in the run position. It has to be in the start position, and it will only run at idle as you stated. I think its tied in to a rev limiter. It sounds electrical with several possibilities. Access to a DVMeter will sure help. First Id start by ohming out the switch in both run and start possitions to make sure its working. That they had it bypassed makes me suspicious. If you have continuity through the switch, the next thing is to check for voltage off the pickup coil, which is the small one under the flyweel. I dont remember exactly what it should read, but its probably either working or not, so it probably wont matter. With switch in start position, pull the cord and check for a voltage jump off of it. Debris inside the flyweel often kills them.

Your ither problem where you cant get it to rev out is very common on these. The large part of the pipe is actually split in half sideways by a screen, and they get clogged. If you take off teh pipe, and its revs out, youll know this is your problem. You can easily drill about a 5/8 hole through the divider from the hole where the last section of pipe hoooks in, and it will solve this problem too.

never thought about taking off the pipe and trying, that is genius. Much praise. Will let yall know about the pipe. I also believe that the switch may be at fault, more testing tomorrow will determine for sure. Thanks a lot yall.

PS: it's a trizinger 60

Trike started working again "no reason"

As for the exhaust, that was pretty much the whole problem. I took the small pipe that connects into the large exhaust chamber off completely. The elbow where it connected to the large chamber was clogged with exhaust. It ran 200% better without the small pipe. Is it risky to run the trike without this piece due to dirt, debris, water and what not falling in the hole? Well, worst case scenario I just take off the entire exhaust and pressure wash the inside to remove debris right?

Another part of the problem was the choke. Upon close inspection I realized that moving the lever did not move the cable at all. I found out that this was because the "choke adjuster nut" was tightened all the way so that choke was perpetually on. Loosened it up, and all's wonderful.

Still have not answered the electrical issue, I really need a diagram to tell me what wires connect to what and what is the CDI and what is a relay/fuse box.

Thanks a lot yall.
