it will cost a fortune to make...most plastic manufactures mass produce them using high pressure molding machines at high output. To have someone make 2 masters to work from, your looking at about $1100-1200 (time and labor to perfect the design), not to mention the cost to have someone mass produce them. I looked into it, and was underly dipressed after hearing what kind of numbers are involved with making them. Id say go for it...ill buy a few:beer

if this project doesn't produce anything I may just start buying shrouds, dyeing them...and then clearing the piss out of them

So no one make them? I'd pay 50-60 for a red one.

ok my shop is next to a place that makes plastic things in china they can make a exact replica in any color a mold will run between 5,000 and 15,000 dollars than a min order or 1000 pieces at aprox 10-15 a piece i have to ship one to china to get a exact price but was wondering if i was worth investing in i figured with forums and ebay they would sell im not sure i would have to get around 50- 75 each to make it worth it but would 1000 ever sell? these guys can make anything plastic it just takes money lol

1000....there's prolly 20 times that many 350xs still out there...but guess what....most are rotting away.
I'd say you'd sell a hundred or so. I've actually been thinking about the LSU art department...they work with plastic all the time...seems like they could make something

I would say save your $. I had a mold made for the 86/87 200x shrouds earlier this year thinking that since there were over 15,000 made (based on vin #'s) I would have no problem selling at least a 100 sets within the first few months...6 months later sold less than 30 sets:( If you do this project and have to sell 1000 shells to get your $, be prepared for a long, long, long term payoff.
Damn, that sucks dude. But you did do a great thing by getting these parts out there. I plan on buying a set for mine once I get some other things squared away, it needs a ton of work.

The 86/87 200X shrouds - It does stink..... There was allot of interest but then not so much interest in buying them. I'm honestly shocked....... For years people were bidding on crappy, junky used OEM shrouds beat up and paying a small fortune. The shrouds were made, fine tuned to what I consider to be excellent and the price is better than right.
I don't think I'd offer to mold up ANYTHING at this point!
I guess it's just the economy........................................... ...................??

Have you put the 200x shrouds on ebay? What was the result? I just got my 2nd gen 200x this month so once I get it in a little better working order this is the first cosmetic item I'm buying. One of mine is cracked and one is missing. I have red ones and I'm thinking I might like white more. Not sure yet.

I feel bad you are stuck with so many left overs.
This is the reason we went with the preorder deal on the Z plastic.
All too often, Someone will present an idea and have a obselete product made.
you will have 20 people saying "yeah count me in.....I will take 2 sets"
Then when it comes time for them to pony up, all you get are excuses.
But then, that can work work in reverse as well.
Someone says they will have something done, and there will be legitimate buyers, and the guy saying he will do it, never completes the project.
So props to you for carrying thru on the deal....Boo to the folks that did not stick with their promise to buy from you once they were finished.
On a good note, new members join everyday. So keep advertising...
To the original question in this post, 1000's of sets will be hard to get rid of in a short amount of time. It is a lot of money to invest....

Im still trying to make a repro 250r tank shroud, its going alright.
vacuum formed plastic is the easy way to go when you get it down.
now if everyone wanted fiberglass, I would be producing out the ying-yang, lol

Well, they repop parts in the resto car industry all the time. But your probobly dealing with AT LEAST TENS OF THOUSANDS of enthusiasts if not more from around the world. I mean did you see the thread in ebay forum for the Pontiac SD for example? You are probobly dealing with a couple of hundred (MAYBE) trike enthusiats. Thats why no one makes repops. Thats why the manufactures from back in the day who are still around dropped the ATC product line--theres no money to be made, DAH. Don't get me wrong, I luv ATC's. I grew up riding them. I have 1 or 2 of them. In my opinion the 3 wheeler ride is dead (with John Q. Public) except for us enthusiasts who keep the memory alive. Go with what your heart tells you and make it work. Good luck! BTW It's only money.

Yeah they've been on ebay several times now but I've only sold 3 sets by auction and another 4 as a result of someone seeing them on there and asking to buy without an auction. I guess it is the economy or lack of interest/need or something.:wondering Funny thing is not only did I think I'd sell several white and red sets but I thought people would jump at the chance for a custom color like blue, black, or carbon fiber. Don't get me wrong I think in time they will sell and I'll get my $ back but it is proving more long term than I had expected. I was also planning on getting a few more products remade, but not now.
Now back to the 350x shell topic.........
I bought a set of Carbon fiber ones from him and I can assure anyone out there thinking about getting some that they are top notch quality and well worth the price.

Maybe you could talk Maier into advertising the shrouds on there site as a limited run item or something? Get rid of the stock you have then just do pre-orders???
I did buy a set of white just in case I actually finish my 200x project someday.
