i believe it is the 1980-84 model but wait and make sure somebody backs that up. i know that the carb from the 80-84 goes on it ( i just bought one for mine ) .

the xr have a higher compression piston, more agressive camshaft, bigger carb and are lighter then a 83-85 200x. So in theory the xr should be faster

Now what someone should do for a killer 200x is bolt in an 84 XR200R motor in it. Im pretty sure its 83/84 or 84/85 that they had the four valve head 200's. They were quite an improvement over the other years and are quite a bit harder to find due to the shorter production run. Now that would be trick! I might just need to find a roller X and a XR motor!

Find a crf230 motor, work it a little and drop it into a 200x!

Yeah I think any year XR200 motor will work other than the rare 4 valve. Hell even a brand new CRF230 motor will work like someone had said.

And sorry for this question but how many valves do the 86/87 200X's have?
