I like the IMS better IMO. I believe the IMS tank holds just a little more than the clarke. Ive got a clarke on mine. It was hard to bolt on - had to man handle the tank to get it to fit.

If you want it to look good, get a original metal tank and redo it. Ebay always seems to have some for sale. The plastic ones look OK but the stickers won't stick because air gets under them and then fall off. I think you can do a process to make the stickers stick better but..... Just buy a metal tank and do it right.

I do auto body work on the side. I used to do it for my uncles shop years ago.

I start by cleaning the inside with a metal roll (I made a machine that turns the tank at 3 RPM's for 12 hrs with small bolts and nuts) gets most if not all rust out. Take out the dents as best as possible, bondo, sand, prime and paint (with the good stuff!) I then cut off about 1/4" of the paint and primer at the tank fill and then apply the decals. Clear, onece again with the good stuff, if it comes in a can or cost less than $20 to do,,,, Don't!

When my tanks are done they are done for the next 20 years.:)

i was quoted at $375 to have my tank repaired. It had a softball size dent in one side. So i just bought a plastic tank. Stock tanks are the way to go IMO. But if you had to chose from a plastic tank, id go with IMS....

Sykolincoln redoes them and does a really good job at a low price. Look him up.I have a spare metal tank that could be redone. Let me know.

I have a clarke on my 350x it fit ok, you just have to expand them with some air,and they slide right on. The Ims is a little pricier, they also make WIDE OPEN atc tanks, they are cheaper than the clarke, but i've never seen one.

I believe the stickers bubble because plastic tanks actually breathe small amounts of gas vapor.

I've heard the same thing about the plastic tanks and the gas vapor. If you could find a gas resistent adhesive, and substrait they would hold up just fine.

What about a plastic tank and put the stickers on the shrouds like a 250R? Not sure how that'd look. And I wouldn't worry about putting stickers on plastic, just do and and buy new ones every 10 years, no big deal. My 1984 XR500R has the original Honda wing stickers on the plastic tank, yes they are bubbled but that's a lot of years. And look at first gen Tecate stickers on a plastic tank, I've seen a lot of them that still look fine.
