Got a question... While dragging the z I had a radiator blow and collant came shooting out of somewhere. I turned the bike off immediatley and have not ran it since. I have put on new radiators and filled it back up. The tranny fluid looks good and if I did the compression check correctly (kicked it 4 times and the needle stopped rising at 168 PSI. I want to start it now and see what happens but I need to make sure that I don't need to look for something else before I do (like the head gasket). When these things overheat, what all could be wrong? thanks

mine will do it at random during tight slow trails...
do youhave the overflow bottle set up???
hows the jetting?
what do you mean rads blew?

Sounds like headgasket, make sure your head is properly torqued.
And I would suggest an inline cooler, that way you can keep an eye on your temps. a temp guage will also help you jet your bike correctly.

I will check the torque on the head. The carb is jetted fine becaseu it ran fine for a long time before this happened. Will overheating make the head come loose or do you think that the gasket may be damaged? If it is, I can just replace the head gasket and not have to do a full top end I hope.

you can just do a head gasket...id pull the head off and see what sup
how long did it run? you know winter leans out your jetting...cooler dryer air means more air and less fuel with the same jets

sounds like it just came out of his overfill unless on the right rad the clutch cable guard finally ripped through! did you check that?

Good call ripper. The clutch cable may have rubbed thru the radiator.

I'm not real up on the TRI-Zs but isnt that the same symptoms as the problematic water pump failure?

well thats why i asked what "blew a radiator meant..."
to see if its pushing coolant or not...

After rereading it, sounds like a hose clamp or somthing (if not overflowing into coolant bottle)
Tighten everything down and go ride.

90% of the time, the plastic impeller has come off the shaft. 10% of the time, the head gasket is leaking, and your cylinder compression entering the jacket forces coolant through the 15 psi radiator cap. (not actually overheating)
In either case, collant is blown out into the oveflow bottle, which usually blows the cap off of it.
If its the head gasket, it will do it when its cold, and spurt out heavily each time you rev it. If its the impeller, it will only do it when it gets hot enough to build more than 15 psi boil pressure.
