My dreams came true this afternoon, I gave a man $300 in exchange for his 85' 250r which is a rare find up here. Over all the bike is in great shape for it's age, rear shock works, very little rust and the motor looks great though the exhaust port(not a scratch). Here's the bad......The starter slips, forks leak, caliper may need freeing and it needs front and rear fenders, not that bad considering the junk that's out there for more $$$.
Now for the question period of this post.
1 - Whats the fix for the slipping kick starter?
2 - What years are compatible with 85'?
I'll get some pics of it up tomorrow when it comes out of the truck.
Cheers

lets see some pic's
Buy a 86 or up trx 250R kicker gear and spacers off ebay. They were updated, and stronger.Just about everything in the engines will swap out.
The 86 Trike has a different swinger,axle and carrier,and brake caliper bracket.Same as the 86 and 87 TRX 250R...
The 85 trike had its own swingarm and axle and carrier, that only came on the 85.
That is about all that is different. But it will all go on your 85 if you swap all the 85 stuff out for the 86.
The rest of the differences were purely cosmetic, for the most part for the 85 to 86 trikes.

I bet that thing will perform 100% better without those heavy rear tires! WOW! borderline trail pros there! looks good otherwise!

I managed to get one holeshot on it last night, I'm going to try again tonight with the other.
I'm surprised that no one has commented on the 200x rear fender that's on it.

Yeah, these tires looks 25 inch tall.
Looks like a great start. The bike is complete.

What number am I looking for? #1 for the gear or is it 3, the ratchet jobbie? Which # is the spacer your talking about?
I might be needing a clutch hub, I found what looks to be a spring post in the bottom of the bucket O' bolt he gave me, I hope it didn't come from this motor. Is the TRX hub the same as the 250r?
