85 & 86 200X parts interchange

I just picked up an 86 200X that needs a bunch of work. Can anyone tell if any of the following parts from an 85 200x will fit the 86?

Axle
front caliper
rear caliper
kick start lever

defintely no to the kick start. I don't think the axle does either. The front and rear calipers should, the caliper brackets may not, I know the rear won't, the front might. I used a 86 200x caliper and bracket on the conversion I did to use a 83/84 250r front end and 350x tripples.

The kick start wont work? What can I get a kick starter from or does it have to be from an 86/87 200x? What about 250sx? I think I have one of those somewhere too.

The 86 200X has a very small splined kicker, I don't believe much else fits....

Buy a new one for 87$ and sell it for 50$ when your done with the trike. The 86 kicker is always in demand and I buy everyone I see for a fair price. I have about 6 of the 86 and 2 of the 87's :D

Front calipers and brackets swap, rear may need the bracket like Death said.....

I think that front axle might swap, see how long yours is and I'll check an 86/87 one for ya.

Welcome to the frustations of rebuilding the 2nd gen 200x.

Thats why you see alot of the 2nd gen 200x's missing the kicker. Hard to find one that swaps. The 86 has a smaller kick shaft than most trikes. The 87 has a larger shaft and I heard that the trx 300 kicker swaps but I cant confirm that.

You gotta search a little longer for the 86/7 parts but they're out there.

Thanks for everyones help. Yeah I have never ridden a 2nd gen 200X and have never seen mine run but I really like this thing.
And DC I was actually asking about the rear axle, I should have specified. My 86 has welded on hubs. :( I'm thinking about abandoning my 85 200X, it needs way too much and they aren't nearly as desirable as the 2nd gen in my opinion. And just using the parts that I can from the 85 on the 86.

85 rear axle will not interchange with 86-87. An 83-84 R rear axle will but it will be wiiiiiide! Bummer they welded on your hubs, time to break out the sawzall! The whole front end of an 83-85 will swap to a second gen X.

Cool. That sucks about the axle. I do have a good 83/85 front end, a couple actually but my 86 front end is nice so no real issue there. I noticed the 86 has a trailing axle where the 85 has a leading too. Beings there doesn't seem to be a bunch of 86/87 parts I might be better off getting the 83/84 rear axle but then my 85 200X hubs wont fit will they? Geez!

Well, start talking then, how'd you make it work, what parts were needed, etc?

Stock 83-85 axle will work, all you need is the sprocket hub and a sprocket. The 86 brake disk will slide right on and into the carrier. The last thing you need to do is make 2 1/4'' pvc spacers that go between the bearings and carrier so the axle has enough adjustment to stay tight. Very simple to do.

I like it alot more than the 86 axle actually, Its 3'' or so wider + you have a large range of sprocket sizes, on the 86 lowest you can go is 38, you can put a 35 on this axle. I had one before but traded for 2 brand new 40 tooth sprockets for more power for winter. Also much easier to come by. Only thing I dont like is the sprocket hubs because it moves around but i can live with that. So if you want an extended axle on a 2nd gen, go for the older 200x axles!

Now I have a solution for my 86. Thanks man. That R axle is ridiculous because of it's length and don't even get me started on the sprocket issue. Can you post a better pic or two so I can see the spacer?

Agree. That is awesome. A close up pic would be great, I'm not real clear on where the spacer would go.
Why do you think the R axle is so long? I have an 84 R it's narrow compared to 85.
And the 85 axle is wider than the 86 or is that just because of the hubs? I will be using 85 axle and hubs on my 86.

Heres a quick little diagram I made in paint. Basically normally you would just pound the bearing in and then put the seals in. With my axle I had to put the spacers in, then bearing, then seals. It just spreads the bearing apart a little farther than stock to keep tension on the bearings. Because if you dont have them the axle nuts will run out of thread and the axle will have slop. It may be different on other 86 200xs, possibly wider bearings or different carrier style, but you will need the spacers. The axle is overall about 2'' wider not because of the hubs, just a plain wider axle. the hubs give it a good 1.5 or so inches too.
