what worries will I have (besides being loud) if I try running my 200 with only a header pipe and no muffler?

running lean/ melted rh plastic

Can i offset this by riching up the carb or would this cause idle problems?

I don't think the plastic will be a problem.... I would be using a 200m header pipe on a 200x and the out put is directed away from the plastic.

I had my 200cc chinese dual purpose bike without 2 of the header pipe brackets which gave it the effect as if there was pretty much no muffler. The bike still ran and it would idle but it was loud as hell i scared afew people who were walking down the street by revving it. I rode mine on the road like that for probably about 5 months and never got pulled over with it like that. It sounded real spluttery and sometimes it would pop out puffs of black smoke and sometimes at night you can see the blue flames from the combustion on the end of the header pipe. It sounded like it had some serious issues though. Take it off and ride around your riding area and see how many people get pissed off with the ridiculously loud noise.

its not a matter of taking it off, the stock is non existent and to use the after market I think silencer is the brand I need a pipe to connect the two. this is only a question for short term while i worked out other issues I have private property to ride on and intend to have the muffler fixed soon as I can.

What I would like to know is do I run the risk of damaging the engine if ran without muffler?

Also I haven't heard one without a muffler so not sure how loud it would be? I have heard two stroke quads and bikes and they are pretty darn loud especially when given throttle.

I have been told that its hard on the valves if you don't have a certain amount of back pressure from a pipe or muffler.

Well you guy's go ahead and run those machine's with no muffler's,but I sure would'nt.Firehart your rite about the valve's,running without a hint of backpreassure will heat up the headpipe cherry red ,and burn's up the top-end.Your guide's and seal's take a beating also, and after awhile the machine will smoke a bit more etc. It's just a bad idea.

i have been told that the header pipe will get to hott and then melt the head

I've also heard that if the exhaust pipe isnt long enough when you shut the bike off it may suck cold air back into the motor and warp the valves.

A friend of mine put a pipe on his 200x when we were kids and I guess he didn't torque the bolts in and it came off, he kept riding and it blew his bottom end.

I don't know if it was a coincidence , or if it wasn't pulling the heat away from the block and allowed it to over heat. Either way it ended pretty bad for him.

well this is my temporary fix cause I don't want to take any chances of ruining the head or motor. maybe i should find that redneck thread and post it there?!:D

As long as it seals good, you should be alright.
