Picking this bad boy up for $130. Kicks over and supposedly needs a clutch. The owner sold the rear wheels. And it's only about 100 miles away. I have wheels and tires and I plan on fixing it.

Serious coin?? Did ya see the pics ?? The big dollar stuff like plastic, the gas tank and the headlight don't appear to be very nice..... NOBODY pays good money for electrics, footpegs, airboxes, forks, trees etc etc in this economy. On EBAY, people are placing 30 day auctions to get rid of parts and they still aren't selling.......
It is a good base machine, start from there. Because everyone is broke - use that to your advantage and get some cheap parts for it.
I doubt you'll get much parting it and I always say that pl,an on 2000$ to make yourself a good clean decent looking runner. Thats how it goes anyway you slice it!!

I parted one in a little better shape, and ended the auctions at $1000 in parts. The 86-87 parts are in demand.

I'm not trying to battle with ya :beer Take a look on EBAY now, nothing is selling well and it's all selling cheap! Unless it is in excellent shape and this one isn't.......
The 86/87 parts ARE rare but people need better parts than they have. I honestly don't believe that machine would bring 200$ - 300$ in parts after all the fees were paid.
That 1000$ in sales you had, take away the fees and time and email/phone communications and trips to the post office and you made 500 to 600$. You HAVE to pay yourself for your time....
Parting machines and even whole machines isn't bringing anyone anything but a quick buck at this point.

Yes, I agree. It's a lot of work. After feebay rips some of your money, then Paypal rips some of your money, you're left with some compensation. The best part about parting mine was that I got the 86 X front end on my SX!!! :w00t:

Yeah I'm not going to part it. I hate seeing them get parted no matter what the shape as long as they are complete. I'm sure I can get it running with minimal effort, slap my wheels on it then it's ridable. Maybe do a $3.50 seat cover like that one thread on here. Looks like a good seat to practice on. I think pressure washing the frame and the red spray paint off the white plastic will do wonders. I have a spare set of brand new fork boots to throw on it. And I'll just keep my eye out for fenders on ebay when they come up. No hurry to get them. And there are the 200x shrouds on here for sale. The rest of my sport model 3-wheelers are nice and I don't take them in creeks or through brush. I use my 400EX for that. This will be a nice 3-wheeler to do that with in it's present shape.

:beer Gotta say I love your attitude bro.......... yeah, I've seen way worse than that X.... and a few of them are sitting in my garage waiting to be brought back to life, lol  I say go for it. Riding 'em is only half the fun..... the other half is keeping 'em alive.

Well no wheelie pics yet. It's a pretty huge beater. By far the biggest turd I own. I'll prob just try to get it running and go from there. Its missing quite a few things too. Both calipers are gone along with the front master cylinder, clutch perch, kick starter and the coil.
I have a kickstarter from a 350x and all the rest of the stuff from an 85 200x. anyone know if that stuff will fit. I'm already thinking the kick start won't work. I hate to use my 85 200x stuff if it even works since I'd like to put that one together to but the 85 needs a bunch of engine work and the 86s engine is together. I'm still gonna try to get it running but with the amount of work it needs I just might stick it in the corner for future use, still a great buy I think.

EDIT: Use your 85 parts for the time being I say. Make a list down to every bolt as to what you took from the other project.

I may do that. My 85 is in worse shap than this one! lol. Well my 85 has really nice forks and front end, nice frame with title, Near perfect OE rear fenders and seat (from 83 so black). I have 2 engines but they are in sad, sad shape. Both top ends pulled, one crank locked up and the other bottom end is split, will need clutches, timing chain etc. Lots and lots of money to get an 85 engine going.
So will the calipers etc from the 85 work on the 86? What about axle and hubs? I might night ever fix that 85. Needs more than it's worth really.

Isn't the 85 motors going for $300 on ebay?

True but I think on St. Louis craigs list there are about 4 or more different 83-85 200X's that look really decent for $450-$500. I would rather just spend a little extra and get the whole bike rather than just an engine. Because after I spend the $300 on an engine then I have to ship it. Plus that bike will still need a front fender, chain and spockets, axle bearings, steering stem bearing etc. That will put me over the price I can just buy a nice bike for.

I'm gonna try to get a kick starter and coil on from parts I have- even if I have to rig the coil on there. Once it's running I will give you a call. I'd really like to get this thing going, its a neat bike but just a total beater. ha ha.

Dang that looks like mine before I tore into it! When I went to pick it up the guy had it in his pole barn. Well he starts it up so I could take it for a test spin. I let it warm up a minute and the smoke filled the whole shed lol. His little kids were running for cover.

Here's a little update. The only thing I've bought for it so far is a $20 clutch off ebay. lol. Works great and I got to ride it passed 2nd gear for the first time to day. Wow. I love it. I swapped in some different forks, boots, headlight, fender, handle bars, etc. It's all stuff I had laying around, so I have $150 total in this thing right now. Im hoping getting some time on it might help out with the smoking also.
