Has anyone tried converting to hydraulic brakes? I'm guessing the YTM's have the same stupid set-up as the YFM's, that is disk with a mechanical caliper. What are options on the front drum brakes on the 3 and 4 wheelers as well?

You could probably fit a tri z front end if you wanted to and that would give you hydraulic front brakes. I switched front ends on my bw200 to a tri z front end. The rake was a little bit more, but it still was a big improvement. The back end would take a little fabbing up.

I was woundering the same thing. Maybe a blaster rear caliper could be used?
At least when you take time to adjust the brake correctly the stopping power is very good. Some time with my ytm-200 I luck the rear wheel on pavement, but you still got funny pedal feel.
