185s in a 200s with a 200x carb runs like crap

i have a 200s with a 185s engine with a 200x carb, It wont run right. it starts up on choke. as soon as you take it off choke, it quits. i cleaned it twice same thing. i have the needle set at stock position. should i try leaning it or riching it?

I believe 185s runs smaller pilot and main jets than a 200x. Off the top of my head I know the 185s runs a 38 pilot and 95 or 100 main. What jets are you running?

ill check the 200x carb is stock. so what ever a stock one is. i will check though.

Well, I would think if it runs with the choke on the idle jet would be too small. You can try lowering the clip, which should give you a little more gas and you will probably have to set your air/fuel and idle set screws better too. Have you pulled the plug to see what it looks like. Black sooty plug, too much fuel, light tan to white plug, too little fuel. The plug will tell the tale. Oh, and it would work better with a couple new plugs on hand or you will have to be wire brushing the spark plug a whole lot, like everytime you go and pull the plug to see what it is doing.

hell I put a 200x carb on my 86 125m and it ran like a raped ape!
