what kind of fabric should I use to recover my 84 atc200s's seat?
I want to sew it and stuff my self, but need a good semi-water proof
leather looking material(or whatever the original seat material was).

Thanks,

Justin

I saw a picture of a seat covered with marine vinyl. I thought that was a good idea.

I would think you can buy blocks of foam for like auto upholstery and what not. Then you cut it down to the shape you want. Isn't that what custom car upholstery guys do?

I work in a foam company and Polaris 91 is right. Arctic Vynal is good for temps. that fall below 0 degrees. It's good for up to 40 degrees below zero before it will crack. just so you know because of the economy foam company had to raise there prices, we had to at my job. There is also a few different types of foam. We sell Mid medium, mid firm, mid soft, ultra medium, firm, soft, and ultra extra firm. In my opion the ultra extra will last the longest, but it is a little hard. Try to go with either Ultra medium or firm. The medium should be cheaper than the firm. We sell our foam in sheets. Good luck

The marine vinyl that works best has a white mesh back to it and that blue matches great! There is a grain to the material, you have to figure out which way to run the grain. I start in the middle and put the staples way towards the middle of the seat pan (just to hold it) while I figure out what needs to go where or be pulled and stretched.

If you immediately start stapling right at the usual place, you can't move it around if you make a mistake or your left with Cobra bite marks

There is one bad thing to homemade covers that are one piece. By getting out all the wrinkles, you have to pull it so tight that it lifts the neck or front of the pan off of the gas tank. IMO - Thats why aftermarket covers are sewn in a couple of sections and have seams.

I can only assume that the honda covers were put over a mold and formed in the places it needed to go so it could be lightly stapled and not yanked like hell to get it smooth. Heat guns or the sun help allot too!

marine vinyal and strechign works wellfor the normal seats liek the honda 200's and such you take one pice streach it and keep wrkign it tighter and tighter and it will look nice in no time at all but the ones liek the 200x 250r and 350x you have fo fold the back corners and streach liek hellto get it tight and then hit it with heat fun to let it relax so it doesnt pull up so hard on the front of the seat.

hands down the cheapest. and BEST by far to use if your going to recover a seat yourself, if buy a sheet of black truck tarp, its nearly untearable i had a hard time getting self tapping screws through it when i did my seat.

Uhmm, yeah. And you can use 5 gallon buckets for fenders, tree branches for footpegs and a Folgers coffee can filled with steel wool for a silencer AND spark arrestor

Marine vinyl is no more than 10$ a yard and it does 2 large seats or 4 ATC70 seats. Just make sure it has the proper backing, some of the other kinds people use are used for picnic table covers and other light duty applications......

i dont know what you mean by that. it seemed a little rude, but i bought a roll of black truck tarp for 119.99, and i bet i can do 100 seats with that roll, ill post a pic in a little bit when my mom is home, she has our digital camera with her.

Not rude at all,,JMO,, When it comes to ATC's, Dirtcrasher is a perfectionist... In other words, do it right the first time, and be done with it:welcome:

I was J/K you because some guys take the "homemade" remedies a bit too far - esp. the buckets for fenders post we saw a couple weeks ago :D

BUT, I'm always open to new solutions so let's see that truck tarp stuff you have.

I'm currently having a couple Red, special Red and Blue covers made by mom for mine and DEEPA's ATC70's...... I'll post em up when there done.

a friend of mine, just redid his boat seats, foam and all, and he went to a junkyard and got a mattress from a rv and used the foam from that, and he got it fairly cheap too.
