I believe that is a Mikuni VM20. The jets were different on those years as compared to the earlier years too. The later year jets were larger, both the idle and main speed jets were bigger.

Carb jets too small or too big don't do you any good. Too much unburnt fuel will hurt performance just as badly as too little a jet, but at least it won't burn up your piston, it will just foul your plug. The only way to tell a proper jet size is to do plug readings or plug chops. And unless you have your trike pretty close to a good tune up, there are alot of other factors that can affect the plug reading. You have to make sure that you have a good fuel/premix ratio, make sure you have the right plug, make sure your engine has good compression, make sure you have good reeds, make sure you have the carb clean and set up properly, make sure you have a good clean airfilter and make sure your exhaust pipe isn't all gummed up with rust or unburnt oil and fuel. It's more than just throw in larger jets. Larger jets by themselves can make the trike run 10 times worse. You really need to start with the trike at the top of it's maintenance and then go from then. You have to have as many factors working as best as possible or it will throw the whole process off. But you'll learn as you go along, it just takes alot of patience and some elbow grease and some money.

I can't remember gap right off hand. Premix should be run at whatever the maker recommends. Did you try adjust the air/fuel ratio? You might have to adjust the idle after you adjust the air/fuel ratio.
