Sounds to me to be poor compression.... do a compression test.

I had this problem when I got my X, just go through everything that's adjustable and adjust it (valves, carb, timing). That really helped mine alot.

Another very good possability is a weak exciter coil. With a weak exciter coil you have to get the motor spinning faster to get enough electric flowing to make a good spark. I have seen it a lot of times.
Ohm reading on the black with red stripe wire should be 215-240 for the easiest starting.

My friend has the same problem with his 83 200x. So his cousin came and quess what he started his 200x useing the kick start. What did closed the choke like half ways, but it doesn't always start on the first kick. His cousin took off on it one time and me and my friend was begining to get worried about him. When he came back he said he killed it and took like over 20 kicks to get it started. LOL

Had similar problem with TimJr's Raptor 80 at Trikefest. It was low compression caused by valves needing adjustment. They were too tight and not closing all the way. 10 minutes worth of adjustment and it now starts intsantly.
