I'd put it under the tank like you have it in the one pic, or do the forks hit the top tank when you turn?

A 1st gen 250R tank mite fit on there and give you your space you need.

I would use what you have there and like you said put two of those aluminum finned inline coolers wherever they fit, and it should be good to go. BTW nice looking 200x. Should be fast.

What about an early YZ radiator? They were on the tripples as well. I would want more than just that one small radiator you are holding up, you can't put one on the other side?

geez everyone thinks you should use a tecate rad up front... Ya know what would be easier? get a street bike rad or even a quad rad and mount it up front like a tecate... then all the trouble looking for a tecate rad is solved!

If you want a good place and a good rad, get a ninja 500 radiator and mount it inbetween the forks, get a piece of aluminum and cut out the slits then paint. Or just use a regular cover.

The one rad and 2 inlines will work great.

Kasey's right that tube around the pipe holding the frame together isn't strong. Alteast put 4 gussets on it. Two on each side going all around the tube from top to bottom at least 2 inches on each side of the pipe. That will keep it from collapsing under load.

No it doesn't. I kinda like it, four little plates and it will be stronger than the original pipe.

Edit: you were too busy being a spelling nazi to notice the pic's?

i think it can be made strong enough,,, maybe one longer gusset tapered on both ends and cut out to match the circle,,,,, and if you wanted box it in ,,, other than that it looks pretty kool,,,, back in the day i had a 85 cr 125 in a 84 250r chassis,,, it was fun!!

I agree with the others, its a good idea, but re inforce it, any jump or hit you take in the front end will bang that up.

Get some high temp rubber or something to control the vibration, it will cause cracks there. Gusset it and hook it in.

By inbetween the forks, I meant this:

Hook it to the underneath of a front fender that has air slits in it (dont call me nuts yet), Make a fender bracket and use the brake lines as a guide for the coolant lines, you can add in inline coolers with this too. If you have a guard and the front tire isnt too big, this is a perfect fit.

Another method is this: Place 2 cr250/atc250 radiators under the rear fenders, run the inline filters into the tubing outside and keep the rads underneath. The radiators will collect the air from the tires and under fenders.

Yeah it all sounds stupid. Just place the damn thing under the front down tube

BigRed_Ryno
10-26-2008, 06:22 AM
Yeah a gusset either side of it, profiled around the tube, would make it great. I'm liking this project. cant be of much help on the rad thing i'm afraid. Can't wait to see the finished product. May try the same myself :D

i was planning on useing gussets on the exhaust frame mod i mentioned it in the first post i have a plasma cutter so im going to make a 1 peice gusset down the down tube over the exhaust mod and down the tube some more 1 on each side sould be more than enuf make it out of 1/4 inch plate any more thoughts on only running 1 rad???

Can I ask what's your reasoning for that? :wondering

Intresting project you have here. I've only ever seen one other on here. (with no good pics) So I dont know how they went around the problem with the expansion chamber not fitting around the frame rail. should be a blast to ride when its done tho!:TrikesOwn

Dude, I realize four little plates would make it plenty strong. However, they aren't there.

As for being a spelling nazi, it's one thing to have some bad typing skills or even grammar. It's another thing to have a thread that's typed out so bad you don't even understand what the author is asking about. The only way I figured out what this guy was asking was by looking at the resposnses to his initial post. His grammar has already improved, so be glad I said something.

If it's only one CR 125 rad, I can't really see that working right. It was designed to run two, after all. One bigger rad would work fine.

smyers33
10-26-2008, 01:32 PM
Well I haven't been on here in a while so I'd like to sey hey to everyone. And about this rad. Don't just use half of the cr125 rad. That will look plain stupid. Sit down think it through and try to come up with the best way of doing it. Not the cheapest or easiest. When this thing is finished you want people complimenting it and drooling over it, not asking why you only used half a radiator lol.

10-26-2008, 02:47 PM
I think your build is great!!

I guess there is there no way to get a set of 85/86 R radiators on there??

Would have been better and easier with a 85/86 250R roller but we all use what we have on hand!

I have a nice little project myself that will hopefully come together by next spring :naughty:

Great stuff!!

What about going with a radiator setup similar to what the tigers have.I'm sure you could find a radiator small enough to fit on the side and the bracing might add a small amount of bracing to the down tube where the pipe is.

Just my two cents.

Might i suggest using a honda 750 sabre radiator? or possibly a honda magna radiator? Both are rather square and relativly small. Should fit nicely on the triple clamps like the tecate rad does....

Hey damage, I don't owe you any explanations but here it is anyways. What do you think I don't really have a 500? You don't even know me.

Let me say this, to all you candy-asses that keep saying I'm a liitle harsh. That's just it, I am. I am one of the few guys on here who tells it like it is. If some dummy's gonna post vids of himself launching his trike through the air and onto his ass, I'monna call him an idiot. If somebody's gonna start a thread that is typed so poorly I can't even tell what it is he's asking, I'monna tell him. I wasn't even rude to this guy. I just told him he might want to check his spelling, and now he does. Your welcome. If I come off as a little rough around the edges, I am. More than likely it's a by-product of the military. Maybe it takes a no-BS kind of guy like me to stand up for his country and a guy like you, damage, to hold the hands of all the guys who were too scared to go and tell them "It's alright". I will keep calling 'em as I see 'em. If you don't like it, F O.

I just got riled up for a minute there, sorry. The first hyperlink on that last post is the only time I had it running, at which ponit I noticed the leaks in the left engine case. I've got a new case but haven't yet had the time to replace it. It's just one issue after the next with that thing, it's starting to make me nuts. I'll try to be more positive in the future.

The first hyperlink (if you had checked it) is a vid of it running.
