I Purchased the top end since I have a bearing going out in the bottom end, I want to know in general what can be expected. Im looking for people who have first hand experince.

My purpose for it is not to be a drag bike but rather a nice dune ride. Im having Dave Moore (used to own MP racing) to do the work on it (porting, balancing, crank and piston work.) What carb have you ran and liked, and intake set-up, where do I get a boot to fit a 38 or 39mm?

I like my lights to but after reading endless threads, im having second thoughts on my factory ignition, any pointers o that area?

Its my first Honda, so give a hipocrit a brake!

How much you spending for the setup ? ?

I have no pictures right now..

Im living in Salem

So far for the top end, Cool head, Pro-X cylinder im into it $700
Im having Dave do about another $550 worth of work to the top and bottom
Plus what ever the labor is going to be for the final assembley.
Still need a carb
Thinking about ignition
So already ill have 1,200 into it.

Dave Moore has a shop in Salem, around portland rd if I remeber right, about 10 minute from my house.

When You Say 310 Kit ,, Is It A True 310 Or The Typical 72mm Cylinder Thats Not 310 Unless You Bore It Ti 74.5mm????

72mm so a 295? Gives me a few bores out of the deal, which isnt a big deal to me, I dont think 2mm would be substanial for power increase. False advertising at its best though, thanks alot Kasey for kicking off me off my 10ft horse, lol........should have got a 70

I NEVER understood the reason for calling a 295cc kit a 310???? i mean what is that all about? sales tactic?
i have a couple of 310 kits!! lol both are NOT 310...

Its general pratice in the atv performance community. Every company does it. They rate the kit size based off the LAST bore of the kit.

that sounds like its gonna be a sweet ride. maybe i'll see you on the sand. as for the carb issue. use a 350 oddessy boot it sould fit up to a 40.5mm i think. most of my buddies and i are running much smaller carbs on our 250rs for the low end grunt to pull the bigger dunes. i don't thing you would need to go bigger than a 34 36mm.

On a stock ported 250r ill run a 38 or bigger. On a pro x cyl a 39 or 41 would be the only way to go. Using a 36mm on a prox cyl would be like drinking your coffie through the stiring straw. Its possible but it just sucks.

hey nick ,, in some respects i agree but unless you are using the very top of the powerband i do not think you need that big of carb on a 250 .. this riding season i will test this on my daughters 250r... i have a stock 34, a 36 a 38 and a 40.5 i am going to run them all and see if there is indeed a difference worth going bigger,, it would be intersting to know how many cfm's a stock cylinder will flow... since porting usually is more about timing than flow,,,

I would start with a 34 or 36mm carb. I would start out with some fat jets and lower your jet needle clip. NO WOT until your satisfied your not running lean. Also on the Mikuni's you can replace the needle jet for more fuel. It's alot less expensive to replace parts than carbs. Also use a round instead of a flat until you know where you're at. You don't want to wash the cylinder. BTW I only use Mikuni carbs.

A 38 or bigger on a stock 250R????? Are you sure??? I don't think so.

At rampage 2 years ago, The 250r i built (stock cyl, 2ed overbore, ported by me) had a 41.5mm PWK carb, Unknown pipe, and rad valve. Only got beat by Kaseys 500, the Tecate 500 that was there and one of the SWR's 250r. Every other bike there was smoked.

That bike also has the smoothes power delevery i have ever felt or seen for how fast it is. Is it too much?? If they made a 44 i would have him put it on that bike. With the 39.5 that was on it before the 41.5 the main jet was a 210 when we went to the 41.5 we went to a 195.

When porting a 2 stroke getting from point A to point B is less important than it is how it enters the cyl. But every bike i ride the mid to top gains you get with the BIG carbs are well worth it.

Another example is my banshee, on a stock stroke/bore 34mm cars are big, Im running 37's Much better power now.

On your 500 Kasey, It amazes me you run a 38mm. On my 500 it fees way choked up on top with the 38. It was on there for about 10 mintues of ride time before i swaped to a big carb.
