Should be getting today 5 new cables for the 87 SX. I was thinking of oiling the inside with light oil and then a dab of grease on the rubber caps to prevent moisture from entering. Thats how I save old dead cables so I thought it may keep new ones new? Silicone lube wouldn't prevent moisture as much I don't think.

Would like your thoughts on your methods.

I use chain lube inside all of my cables. Been doing it for 25 years on bicycles and it definitly makes cables last longer and easier to pull!
