i got a 1986 250r and put a 04 400ex rear axle in
no problems at all till it came to the brakes
used the 400ex carrier with the 400ex axle
put the sprocket/hub from the 400ex on
i put the caliper bracket from the 250r and the hub/rotor from the 400ex
that didn't work. rotor is too far out from swingarm
before i go tearing this apart again what should i do?

400ex caliper bracket and caliper and hub/rotor? single piston caliper

250r hub/rotor caliper bracket and caliper? dual piston caliper

any help would be great.
thanks
frank

you need the 250r caliper bracket, brake hub, caliper and rotor to use a 250r. If you want to use a 400ex you need everything 400ex, which is a downgrade to 250r.

i have all of both set ups

right now i have the 400ex stuff on it. still not spaced right
the caliper is too far in towards the swingarm

it might have been that the caliper was locked up on the slides and that it does line up. i have some pics ill put up better ones when i can.

How is it a down grade? I thought it was pretty much the same stuff?

400ex is single piston, 250r is dual piston. larger pads on the 250r too

450R is single piston too and seems to stop it just fine.....

I wouldn't say 2 piston makes it better than single piston. The actual piston area is more important than number of pistons.

i think it will be just fine but people keep telling me that its not as good. im fine with the 400ex caliper
