depends on how much you wanna spend. straight out of the crate they were beasts. best mod is the 83-84 kx cylinder, better then stock pipe, bigger carb, vforce 3 reedcage and reeds, kx ignition or a pvl ignition, like i said depends on what you want to spend. and also, they were fast stock!!

Back in the day a simple tire change to low pros and a silencer is about all we did for play riding. PLENTY FAST!

I put a kx500 in mine.
The 250 will eat most bikes.

Ported 84 KX250 cylinder with head cut to match and KX ignition/flywheel.
Make it as light as possible.
No air box lid.
36-39 PWK carb.
I find Boyesen reeds on ebay for like $15 shipped every so often.

Better slow your Tecate down some, maybe a 12 tooth sprocket and 18 inch tires lol...


As for making the 85 fast....14 tooth front sprocket, heavy mid/top rpm port job and a PWK 38mm carb.
