Here are some pics of the plow I built for my Big Red. The plow is mounted on the same brackets for the foot protector bars I built. The brackets are mounted to the same mounting holes as the foot pegs. I take out one bolt from the bars (front motor mount bolt), slide them out, drive over the plow, slide the pivot rod in place and pin it, hook up the winch, and push.

Seems to work well, obviously have not tried it in snow yet, but pushed some gravel and stuff around. Ran into a couple of curbs and stuff to see if the blade folded ok, and it does after adding another spring. Nothing broke after quite a bit of abuse. Steers heavy with the blade up, but with it down it steers easily.

The frame is 1" square tube and various other steel for bracing and such. The blade is a section out of a hot water heater tank with some 1/4" bolted on as scraper blade. I made the "pads" (the concave pads that ride on the ground) out of 1/4" plate that I pressed into a concave shape in the 20ton shop press. The blade angles left and right by pulling a pin.

I'll see what kind of traction I get out of the tires on snow, but might add some weight to the hitch if needed.

Looks great for 6 inches of powder!!!!

You should stud and chain the rear tires for maximum traction.

I like it! ...and cool it's got a winch to raise it! Nice! Just hope the front rack is strong enough when you lift the plow full of snow.

I like to build one for my 200. We normally don't get more than a few inches at one time out here.

I think the rack will be fine :)

Go for it. Even somthing more simple would work well, a little narrower without the angle and folding features. Not really hard to build. Hardest part was making the frame brackets that were dual purpose.

My brother has one on his red, and it plows great! He does his driveway and half his front yard. He uses v bar chains in the rear and a had full of studs in the center rib of the front tire. Befor the chains he used a 40 pound bag of pellets on the rear rack. Just keep an eye on your front tire pressure with the extra weight of the plow, when my brother bought his the fork legs had about 3/8 of an inch wore down on the top of the fork legs by the dust seals from low tire pressure and the nobbies rubbing on the legs.

I have a cycle country plow on my red and love it add 80# of sand bags on the back rack and it will plow through about 10 to 12 inches of snow no problem

I am hoping to not have to use chains. I think adding a bunch of weight will work fine, and I am not exactly a featherweight myself:lol:

That's good to hear. I pushed some loose gravel around, no lack of power. If I can get traction I should be good. I was thinking 80-100lbs weight would work fine.

Ditto the avatar.

This has totally helped me make up my mind if I should sell the Red or not. I just happen to have all the tubing, plate steel... Heck... I even have an old water heater. :-D

Best of all, my BR already has tire chains! It's only a 200, but I think it'll still do OK.

Post some pics when you get it done. I'd liketo see how you did it. If you have any questions or want a pic of something just ask.

Can you still buy these for the Big Reds or is it something you have to get lucky to find somewhere used?
