No 1st or 2nd gear

Bought an 85 200X cheap, problem is it will not go into 1st or 2nd gear. Guy i bought it from said it was the clutch, I said gotta be something else because you can shift from 3rd to 5th riding. Any thoughts where to start. No neutral either!

wow, one of the major problems with the first gen. was the 200x transmission. you will probably need to rebuild the bottem end. My X when I had it: First the kickstart spring broke so I fixed a rope to hold the kick start after I satrted it. Next was first gear and second gear go from being able to use to almost impossible to go to first gear and then when you tried to put it back in second it did not want to.

OK so chances are clutch can be eliminated as the problem????? I just do not want to start changing parts if they are not gonna fix it!
Oh yeah this is my 1st 3 wheeler i've had since 87, so I would say if I tore it apart it would probably never run again. Any good manuals on these atvs out there?

I went out this morning and tried to start it with no luck, I put it up on my lift(w/ rear wheel off the ground) and held the clutch in and tried to start it and the rear wheels are trying to turn with each kick.... now i am more confused as to what is wrong!
Also when you try to kickstart it it about breaks your foot from the kickback!
Anyone have any ideas??????????

Its hard on the tranny to start in gear, you probably burnt the clutch, as I said your in for a rebuild. Heres a bottem end on ebay but it is a little spendy.
