What does everyone use to replace the worn stock rear shock on the 200X? Im thinking 300EX or something like that. I dont care if its a bit longer either. Someone somewhere has had to try something.

I tried a Raptor rear shock and got nowhere due to fab work. I would like something simpler.

I ordered a works shock and never regretted it.

300ex shock will work with slight modification. I put a 02 300ex shock on mine and it does ride much smoother but for jumping its not as good I dont think. The top bushing needs to be taken out and replaced with a 3/8 bushing, the stock is 7/16 on the 300ex. It can just be drilled out but I didnt want to ruin the frame so I changed the bushings. On the bottom the mount will not fit in the stock mounting hole. I had to drill a 7/16 hole located up farther on the swinarm tab for it to fit. It does work but I dont know if is really much better then the 200x shock.

Is that to rebuild your shock or for a whole refurb'd shock?

I emailed them a couple of questions today. I let you know what I hear back.

From what I've heard - the 250SX works shock ran about 300$ and that has no resevoir etc etc.

Shocks are a tough thing to swap. Even though they fit, they have to be valved right for that application and they certainly weren't valved for an agressive 200lb rider like myself. So, I think a works 86/87 200X shock might be a great upgrade but I bet there 500$ or better......

I think the guy that got an 85/86 250R setup on there had a great idea because it gave him a linkage setup. He had to weld 2 simple brackets onto the lower engine cradle area.

In addition to a few builds in store for the future. I definitely want to try to get a 250R shock and a 450R swinger on an 86/87 200X. I also need to take apart a crappy 200X shock and find all the parts to rebuild it...

That would be interesting...

You can get the whole 450 rear for a couple of hundred bucks. I like the idea of having new(er) parts on a trike.

Ok spoke with the folks at Works Performance today. Seemed like nice enough guys.

Basic rebuild - gas, oil and seals is about 130$ They clean it up and set it up for you.
If other parts were needed it would go up from there. Like re-vavle and new piston etc... They couldnt really quote me the part costs with out seeing the shock. They would need to match it up to other stuff theyve worked on. He guestemated up to 300 - 350$

They do sell there own line of shocks for the 200x starting at 570$. Going up to 650+$ with a remote resi like the stocker.

I'm a little concerned about sending my shock out there thinking Im spending about 150$ then end up spending more like 350$

So works is an option. But like it was said, Expecting 130 and paying 300+ sucks.

Right now I would like to keep the build at a semi moderate price. I have over 2K in it so far and wife has caught the fever and bought an 84 Auto X. I would like a cheaper readily available shock. A Predator shock is too long, Way too long. Raptor shock requires too much fab work for my taste, 300EX shocks are an option too.

Bottom line is I need some other stock shock options. MY shock isnt too bad now so I think it would only be 130.
