On my 85R the clutch drags quite a bit with the clutch lever pulled in. I can't even start it in gear with the clutch disengaged. I have both the upper and lower cable adjustments turned out all the way. Is there another adjustment? If I have it running I can stop just fine with the clutch disengaged so I know the plates aren't stuck together. They just drag way too much. Also yesterday I noticed it was starting to shift up pretty hard at times. Are you supposed to use the clutch lever for shifting while you are moving? I never have on my 81R and it has never gave me any trouble.

Yes you are supposed to use the clutch to shift. Ive heard you can bend the shift forks etc if you dont. Sure you dont just have a worn cable?

I have never replace the cable. I suppose it could be stretched.

g'day mate, reckon i know what your problem is. my brother-in-laws 89CR125 does the exact same thing. the clutch plates have worn into the clutch drum. which it preventing the clutch pack (plates) from separating.

here is a picture of the clutch drum in the CR. you'll notice the serated edges where the clutch pack slides in, and has worn away the drum. now imagine the clutch plates getting caught on those 'teeth' that have been worn into the drum. thats reason i reckon whats wrong with your trike.
hope that helps

Thanks, that is something I have seen before but never really thought of for a problem with mine. I will have to check on a new clutch set up. I also need to fix my kick starter. It slips really bad at times.
