250sx question

I recently picked up a '86 250sx. It shifts through the gears nicely, but there might be a problem. I can shift it into reverse without using the reverse button and brake lever. Will this cause a problem with the transmission if not fixed. It doesnt bother me if its not hurting the trans( actually it is quite nice). Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Well as long as you dont accidentally go into reverse you will be ok. Mine was just like that, as the reverse cable was too tight and routed wrong. So I would be able to put in R without the lever.
