For a little while now when my 250r is idling I can hear a small knock, best I can describe it is a 'rotating knock', as in whatever is doing it is spinning. Its coming from the very front of the engine so Im pretty well convinced that its the counter balancer, especially after reading up that the balancer was one of the weaker points. The knock goes away once you rev it up a little.

My questions are, what part of the balancer would most likely be making the sound? Im guessing its probably bearings, but Ive heard loose bolts maybe?

And if it is the bearings, would I be able to fix it without pulling the engine out of the frame, or even tearing it apart for that matter? I know I would at least need the clutch cover off and maybe the stator cover...

I still havent gotten a manual for this yet, so thanks in advance for anyone who can help!!

It can be replaced in the frame.

Usually, the big end bearing takes the worse of the wear on the clucth side.
Honda only listed it as part of the whole shaft. Now discontinued.
But you can get the bearing seperate, and mark the gear to the shaft and press the gear off the balance shaft and replace only the bearing.
the bearing number you need is 16007.They are about 20 bucks.Just make sure you mark the gear to the shaft before pressing it off,so you can get the exact posistion back during reassembly.Usually, a file works good to make your marks.

The other side bearing behind the stator cover,is part of the pick-up coil mount.
This can be purchased brand new from ESR, and a few other shops for around 50 bucks with a new bearing in it.
