My whole exhaust system/pipe is in bad shape and it needs a new one.
I have the exhaust off a Tri-Moto 125, and I tried fitting it on, but it doesn't seem to fit correctly. The 125 and 175 pipes are different, but have the same shape and bend (or so it looks). Any ideas???
If I'm not able to use the 125 exhaust, anyone know what (other exhausts) will work with little/no modifications?
Thanks

Someone on the boards here swears that the aftermkt Bassani exp chamber for the 175 & 125 will interchange. I'd like to hear more, but I'm afraid this member was going on what someone said to him...

The yt125 and yt175 bassani exhausts are not interchangable. I have a nos 175 bassani right now and have recently fitted it to my 175 and it attaches to the stock exhaust port just like a stock exhaust pipe. I had put an nos bassani on my yt125 that I sold to the great gazoo, and it has a special piece that needed put on, an adapter if you will. I don't have the 2 bikes together to see if the exhausts will interchange, but that is what I noticed. The yt175 exhaust is slightly larger than the 125 exhaust and Bassani listed them as 2 different parts. I don't know if you can still get the yt exhausts from DG or not as I had a line on the Bassani exhausts. Also, in my opinion, the Bassani exhausts were much better than the DG, but a DG is better than no exhaust at all. I'm not sure if the DG exhaust is usable on both machines. I just recently received a DG exhaust when I bought my latest pro tec suspension kit. I also recently received a nice stock 175 exhaust. I can post pictures if needed. There were other makers of 175 exhausts, but I haven't even seen crappy ones pop up anywhere for sale in years.

Ok thanks for the info. And yes, I even took the "adapter" off as well, and the 125 exhaust still doesn't seem to fit.
So there's no way I can make the 125 (stock) exhaust work with my 175? Or a pipe from a different bike?

No, you're pretty much stuck with using a yt175 exhaust or a pipe made for a yt175. Unless......Maybe you could cut the exhaust attaching point from the yt125 and Cut a piece of the yt175 stock exhaust and oh so carefully weld the 2 together! You would probably have to find someone who welds really well that would use a mig or a tig welder. I wouldn't want to have those exhaust pipes stick welded, since they are kind of thing for a stick welder. You might even be able to braze them together, but mig or tig would be way stronger. Unless you want to be a used stock exhaust? I might be able to sell you my latest stock exhaust.

You see, that would be the best and easiest idea, but one of the bad spots on my current 175 pipe is the head piece/part right near the bend and the little hoop, where the spring goes. There was a hole between the 2 sides of the hoop, then it cracked and got worse.

So are you looking for a nice stock exhaust or does it have to be aftermarket?

They say that the DT175 and YTM175 have similar engines. You could maybe look into that.

I have a 1979 mx175. Even though the bottom ends of the engine are very similar, the engine mounts being exactly the same and the engine will bolt into a yt175, the angle of the exhaust spigot of the head is different. To use the mx175 in the yt, I will have to change the cylinder and the head with the yt175 so I can use the yt175 exhaust with the mx175 lower end. The pipes just won't interchange. I have learned that the exhast mounts on the mx175 and the yt175 are the same, but they are in different locations. I was able to replace both exhaust mounts on my yt175 with the mx175 exhaust mounts.

Doesn't really matter, as long as I can get a good exhaust.

After searching a lot, I managed to find 1 exhaust for the yt175, but it is quite expensive (to me anyways). It would probably be a total of about $120 + whatever it costs to get it across the border.

Vealmonkey, if you have any CHEAP exhausts let me know, I'm just concerned about shipping charges.

Yeah, the shipping charges would be the problem. I have alot nicer looking stock pipe than that.

if Vealmonkey can't help, then I might be able to help. I'm 90% sure I still have a 175 exhaust kicking around.

If someone could take the time whenever they have a chance to find out how much it would cost to (cheaply) ship an exhaust that will work with my yt175 up to: L0B 1B0, Blackstock, Ontario, Canada, that would be fantastic :) .
Thanks for everyones help!!! :beer

I will try and get a couple pictures of the pipe, get it boxed up and take to UPS and Post Office monday or tuesday and see what the damage is.
