Step 1. Score an '85 250R carb off fleebay for $5.00

Step 2. Realize the top cap of the carb is jacked up and won't work as easily as you had thought.

Step 3. Put carb on shelf and forget about for a year.

Step 4. Regain motivation to work on carb after hearing 16 year old at work run his mouth about how good he rides his 300ex with no helmet, and that 3 wheelers are crap.

Step 5. Try to figure out how to make the 34mm carb work while not spending anything but the change in my pocket. (I work at a hardware store so I had the time and resources to find items that would work and only cost a few cents.)

Here's what I had to work with, the cap of the carb didn't have any way to hook the throttle cable up, looks like something snapped off? So I found a random T nut that was a good size for my throttle cable to fit into. Then I got a small washer that the wire could fit through but stop the liner.

Got 3 machine screws and drilled the washer and tapped the carb cap. I used the insulator plastic from a wire end as a bushing between the T nut and cable end, things fit real snug. Then I just sandwiched all the parts together with the machine screws and locktight.

After the carb cap was done I boiled the intake boots and fit them onto the carb. Then swapped over the old style choke plunger. The stock cable and throttle lever opens the carb all the way. Fits in the stock airbox just fine.

Final Step: Take the bike out and hit something to celebrate your new found power and throttle response.
