I'm a new guy to the forums and need some help with my red 200es. What's happening is that I'll be trail riding for an hour or so and the trike will sputter and die like there's a fuel issue. Once I let it sit for a couple minutes, it'll start right back up and run for a little while and happen again and again. I've removed the tank, carb, and fuel bowls and cleaned them installing a fuel filter. This did not help. One thing I did now notice is that I can smell excess burning oil coming from the exhaust just as it starts to sputter and die.

Has anyone experience with this. Maybe a sticky or hanging valve?

Thanks.

Does it have any smoke coiming from the exhaust? Have you checked the CDI module?

I did not notice smoke but I had a guy riding behind me when it happens and he said you can't see anything obvious but definitely could smell oil in the exhaust.

I haven't had the CDI checked.

My 250 SX does that. The vent on the gas cap is plugged...I have to "burp" it to keep riding...finally put a diff. cap on. Hope your's is that easy.

Easy way to check, is next time you are riding and it dies, pull the fuel line off the petcock and see if fuel flows out of the tank. If not, your Cap vent is plugged. If it dumps all over your hand, keep looking.

Thanks for the idea! Never thought of the gas cap. It has the "OFF" and "ON" position. I guess I assumed "ON" meant always on. I'll give a try.

Couldn't you just turn the cap a little?
