Tecate250

I just bought a Tecate for parts. It is a 1985 and is seriously moded. It comes with a +2 Franks swinger, 2 8 inch Tecate Mitchel rims. And a unknown extended axel. I do not have a great pic of these parts yet but the axel does not have any threads that a nut would go on. It just has the hub splines and 2 clip gouges. Is it a floating axel? or does it use a honda 250r special nut?
Also Id like to see more tecate aftermarket parts. Anything will do.

That is the exact same axle that I have in my Tecate. Good luck getting that nut loose, I had to cut mine off and have a buddy of mine build me one. It just spun on the axle, it didn't have any splines on the inside of the nut to grab onto the splines on the axle.

I am missing the other part to the nut. Do you have any pics? What kind of axel is it?

No, no pictures at the moment. I don't know who made the axle, I know there was a company back in the day by the name of Finishline, thought maybe that was what I have. The nut set up is three pieces, the nut looking piece, the piece that has the external threads that screws into the nut and the snap ring that you can't see unless you take the nut off.

Actually I hate the Tecate 4. You look so gay sitting on one. The power is way different on it as well. I love the rattle of a non counterbalanced 2 banger. But I had WWWWAAAAAYYYYY too much problems with it. Thousands and thousands of money were spent on it. Just to make it move let alone look prity.

Anyone see this set up befor? I need to see what the piece that I am mising looks like. Is it a Tecate only aftermarket piece or an interchangeable one?
Anyone also have a pic ofthe franks sticker? It looks like there is a kanguro and says Franks racing products

Aren't you wondering why nobody is answering you? Nobody knows what you're talking about- read what you've already posted, it makes no sense. Start over from the beginning. I'm not going to try and help you anymore.
Good luck, buddy-

Ok here here I go again.
Here is my problem. I picked up this 1985 Tecate that was modified litterly. And it came with a +2 Franks swingarm shown here.
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll148/Tecate250/IMG_1345.jpg
Now the decal shown here. This is a franks sticker. It reads Franks Racing Products, and is yellow and black. And has a kangaroo on it.Now the second is the aftermarket axel that also came with the bike.
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll148/Tecate250/IMG_1338.jpg
It is 5 inches longer and has the funny nut.
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll148/Tecate250/IMG_1343.jpg
Does anyone have this swingarm or axel or can show me a picture of what the piece looks like?

I would say that axle is gonna be hard to use, just set it aside for now. You might be able to build one nice trike from those two. Did you say one has a four stroke motor in it?

Yes. The first picture is that bike. I need to use this axel due to my other axel is in bad shape. The sprocket splines were near gone. So I had to weld it on. lol
I am goint to cut the pieces out of that frame and fix the minor things on the other 2 frames.

is that the only part of the locking nut? nto quite sure of the make or brand of axle, but i know the locking nut i have on my blasters extended axle has a center part that would screw into the threads inside the locking nut, then a circlip goes in the groove on the axle. when you put the locking nut on, your supposed to have that part and the inside part threaded all the way in, place it on the axle, then the circlip into the groove, and then back out on the locking nut (expanding it) which inturn tightens the axle up. hope this helps. you could always get the diameter of the axle and see if perhaps you could get a locking nut thru durablue, g-force, rad, etc.

Does the collar have any splines on the inside to match to the axel or is it just a special collar that can be easly made?
Have a pic of one?
scooterroo
09-20-2008, 09:26 AM
no my collar doesnt have any splines on it, but the axle has them on both sides of the carrier. i would guess so you can flip flop the axle? like isaid the thing that holds the locking nut in place is the circlip. if i can get a pic of it today i will.

So the collar is just a piece of pipe with some threads for the nut to screw on to? I thought that was how is went. I have 1 clip where can you get more? A hardwarestore mabey? or even kawasaki or placees like dura blue?
