I went to look at an 85 350X tonight, and I didn't buy it.:(

It needed quite a bit of work, but was all original. Both fenders were shot, and the engine had no compression, but he said it would run if you pulled it with another vehicle. It had the cracks by the seat latch, and the tires were shot. The guy said he had $475 into it, and wouldn't sell it at a loss. I had $450 on me, because he was asking $600. I didn't even make an offer. It had potential, but to me, it seemed like a $350-$400 deal. The rear carrier was good, and the headlight assembly was like new. The forks needed seals and boots.

I hate leaving a 350X sitting there as I drive away, stingy with my money, but it just seemed like it wasn't as good a deal as it could be. By the time I fix the engine ($200), replace plastics ($200), new tires ($150), other misc. stuff ($WHO KNOWS?), I'd be better off finding another one later on down the road.

Have you ever not bought a trike, and it sits there looking at you like a puppy at the mall pet shop as you walk away?

I bet you did the right thing... It would have been different if the dude would deal some more, then you could have used it for parts. I'm going to look at a 250SX this weekend, I hope it's not the same sort of deal like the 350X you were looking at...

I have a SX, and I love it. It's a great trail machine. I'd like to add a 350X to my stable for when I want to go out and tear it up! I bought a really nice one 4 years ago for $1000, and sold it for $1000 a while later. I'd buy it back for $1000 now if I could find it. I called the guy I sold it to a month ago, and he said he sold it to a guy in Canada.:(

You did the right thing. I bougth this one for $800 a couple months ago, New fenders, decals, gas tank, grad bar, and rebent handle bars back and it now look like new.
I put $400 into it and have a machine worth $1200 or more. you put all that plus rebuilt engine and god know what else and you have the same. Only it can cost you $2000+. Get one in good shape and keep it in good shape and you will be $$$$ ahead.
