Just an easy question. Whats choke? Pushing the lever down? Or leaving it up?

Depends on the carb. What type of atc? On my 200x choke is all the way up.

choke is on when the plunger is up.... which could mean the lever is down on some machines if the lever pivots..

Choke is up on that carb.

Thank you, his will only run with that lever down, and it barely goes 30mph.

WRONG!!!

When that lever is down it holds the butterfly open - or NO CHOKE

When the lever is up, the choke is CLOSED and if you throttle it you will see the butterfly vary as the idle speed changes. Only when you push the lever down is the butterfly forced OPEN and forced to stay that way or NO CHOKE!

so do i have a different carb then? its different than the one i sent you in that parts box.

we went riding and after a lot of smoke and bogging, it died on him and wouldnt go. less than 20min into riding we had to go back.

I guess mine is diffrent, because if i have that lever down, it will start up, but any gas and it dies, pull the lever up and it seems to run fine.

It's the same as an xr200r, down is choke. How you have it in the pic is no choke. If the choke is on after warm up it won't run right. (sputter)

See the arrow on the side of the black plastic lever? That shows the direction to put it to full choke. I agree with Dirtcrasher, run it with the lever down when it's warmed up.

I'd say your main jet is plugged. When you open the throttle, you have the air, but not the fuel to go with it.

The slide needle might be in the wrong clip ring. Try dropping one notch. Beets

okay i cleaned the carb on mine, started it, and it revs wayyyy too high when down, with it up its idling normaly (well whats normal for me)

simple way to find out is just take the intake boot off and see if its open or closed. High idling could be caused by an airleak or sticking throttle cable. For me it was an airleak from a small crack on the rubber boot the carb bolts too

I disagree. With my 200S it will only run good with the choke lever down or in the halfway position. When i put it up it wont start and when I put it up while its going it shuts down it will probably run if i keep the revs up but it runs like crap. When its halfway it runs the best and idles nicely. Its an XR200 carb but one of the jets is off an ATC200 carb (but thats a different story anyway)

when that lever is up, full choke, middle, half choke, all the way down, no choke.

I use full choke to start my 200s, then take it off right away and let it warm up on half choke, then hen im ready to ride, take the choke off.

i don't use any choke on my 84 big red, never once needed to, infact i don't even think the flap in the carb for the chock is there, someone just plug the holes in the sides. never gave me a problem, and runs like a dream. now it if ever comes down to it and i needs to chock i'll just left up the seat remove the air box cover and filter and place my hand over the inlet then take it off when she pick up her gas.
just my 2 cents worth thats all.
ps if u really want to know which way the choke is up or down, just remove the carb and when the flap is vertical full choke, when it is horzontal no choke.
