I have a guy that is willing to make a extended 3 wheeler axle for me if i provide specs and material. I need to know what kind of steel to have it made out of so i dont have to fear breaking it or it bending. stainless? or just regular steel? please help

stainless would be badass but I believe you will need a harden steel.
is this a rear axle? or front.... I dont think I would trust ANYONE other then a major manufacture making a rear axle... my .02

Yea thats kinda what i was thinking. i found a 12 foot stick of hardened steel at a fab company for $60 so i guess if this guy wants to try it i can putt around on it to see how it handles lol

How's he planning on making splines?? Most anyone with a lathe can "turn" the journals....
Hardened steel snaps. You would have to figure out what steel axles are made of. Different steels react differently with heat treating.....

An Inmill machine can make the splines( gotta be right on, give em a hub to go off of)). I believe your right on the spring steel or there is axle steel. It would be easier to get and oem or nos. Let us know how it goes.Beets

ya im gonna do some more studying. id really like to produce an axle equal to aftermarket for a third of the cost or a forth of the cost

Gorilla Axle components are made from 4340 Chromoly steel, one of the strongest steels available today, and then precision machined to a perfect fit for your particular application. But that was not enough for Gorilla Axles. They then heat treated the components and even cryogenically treated them after that to ensure you have the strongest, longest lasting axle on the market

and with all the $$$$ od durablue, lone star, and gorilla axles, you think that you can make a better cheaper axle? i am sure that you can make one maybe even cheaper, but i doubt you can engineer and mass produce a cheaper and stronger axle.
