I looked at a 1985 sx today and she definatly needs work. The guy is firm on 350 bucks.

THE BAD - The front fender is toast, the handle bars are bent. It needs a new headlight switch and no they dont work. Choke cable is non existant The gas tank seems O.K. it did leak and he j.b. welded it. However it does leak at the petcock. The rear gear oil is like carmel, definatly in need of a change. There is surface rust all over but everything is there. It will need a new ignition switch as the key has been broken off inside, so the dash is disconnected. Seat tear but i am not worried about that. The left rear tire has a plug in it. Foot pegs are bent, the rear footbrake and cable is frozen, there is no way its moving. The brake handles are broken off and just hanging by the cable. I took it for a spin and it is on its first bore (my .020 over makes a huge difference in acceleration) and it goes but when i shift it does lurch (not hard but something doesnt seem right?) in every gear...does that mean bad clutch or needs adjustment?

The Good- she fired up on the first kick and thats with no choke! No smoke what so ever when it started or was running. Everything seems to be there, all the decals and stickers and all the parts on the engine. I will let the pics tell the story. I am looking for a trike for my girl that she can just go out and ride on the trails. If you think i can get something better or its not worth sinking money into please say so!

That seems a little steep. I have seen them for $650 in alot better condition. I would offer him 200 and see what happens. If you were looking to restore it would be a great canidate but if you are looking for a cheap trail machine you will likely put a couple of $$$ in it before that will happen.

Thats what i figured but he wont go any lower than 350. I offered 300 and he said he is firm on 350.

Let him think awhile about your offer. I got the one I have for $225.00 and the only thing I spent alot on was new tires and a battery. I did buy a new ignition swithch from honda and that cost $52.00 Alot of minor stuff but it adds up in the long run. I have about $500.00 in the one I got.

I personally wouldn't give more than $250 for it given the amount of work that needs to be done to it. I got my 250 for free and have almost $700 in it now. It was in a lot better shape than that one too.

Yes that is the guy in ransomeville, i take it you know of him? He had a 200x, 350x, a couple big reds and a 70. His 350x he said he was asking 2,500. It was nice but not that nice.

Hublake - he said if no one buys it he is gonna keep it for himself. i just like the engine since its nice running. Really didnt have alot of balls though. And i still fuzzy on the shifting..

I'd have a hard time walking away from it but, I'm an idiot with a passion for junk. Junk that runs isn't full blow junk.

very true. i am having a hard time saying no because it does run and the motor is awesome and it would make a half way decent parts bike but i am against parting it out. The other factor is that i should save the money and for another $150 i can have a nice ready to go runner. it sucks cuz its right there but i think i am going to wait on it. another member here (trikes4life) has apparently had problems with him before to.

$250, I wouldn't go higher. No doubt it could be built up pretty nicely, but it's gonna take some coin.
