well i found this while browsing thru some old bookmarked sites iwas cleaning out of my old computer, thought some of you's might find it useful incase you have some gearing and wheelsize changes in mind.

dont quite remember where i got it from.

Dude, that is fricken sweet! I've been sweatin about my gearing because I got this ride coming up this weekend and I've been swappin tires and gears like crazy trying to make sure I get the best performance I can for the drags. I've just run out of time and threw my best guess at it (20 inch RAZR's, 14 counter, 42 rear). Looks like that is gonna be perfect. Man, you couldn't have posted that at a better time!

damn these things are short geared... I remember running 21's with a 15/42... could barely get goin without frying the clutch or dumpin it....and it still topped out in 5th quickly... I sure love the KDX wide ratio gearbox and small tires in my new trike ... I run 13/42 and it goes faster than the tecate did with 15/42 and larger tires... and it still creeps well in first...

Did you just use a KDX 250 bottom engine for yours or did you put the KDX tranny in your Tecate cases?

I used a '91 kdx250 bottem end, but with as much interchange as kawasakis usually have I wouldnt be surprised if the gears would swap... I used the kdx bottom because I had it layin around... it uses a kx500 clutch, has a heavy flywheel and runs headlights... I was scared the ratios would be junk, but they really work well with the '98KX cylinder... i doubt you would want a wide ratio trans with the narrow powerband of the tecate... maybe with a 300 kit or something..

So you're running the 91 KDX bottom end and a 98 KX cylinder on your T3? And it works pretty good, huh?

its not real fast, but it holds its own just fine:naughty: Against a piped banshee on sand I usually jump 3 lengths out of the hole and then hold it until I run out of gears.. it makes tons of low-mid range power... its basically a tractor with a fmf fatty, a milled head and a thin base gasket... I could change some things to make more revs and HP, but I like it how it is...I can pick up the front wheel and carry it through every gear... no surprises in the powerband... I have three other KX250 engines ('84, '85, '86)layin around so I will probably end up putting another trike together with a more agressive tune..

How hard is it to get a KX or KDX engine to fit on the chassis of the 86 Tecate? Yours is an 86 right?

Well there goes the solid case that all stock racing 250 trikes did around 70 mph. All this time seeing hundreds of people saying there bikes does 70 mph. Had my tecate clocked on a gps and it only did 110 with 13/38 gearing.

What is stock gearing on T3's? Both 84-85 and 86-87's? Anybody know?

What rpm would most consider safe to top out at? I put in the stock tecate gears with the stock 22 inch tires at 12,000 rpms and it says 84 mph in 5th gear.

Im not sure they run that fast. The 86 and 87 I do celieve have 13 39 gearing.

I think 8000-8500 would be more realistic... maybe 9000+ from a drag setup...

That brings the top speed back to a much more realistic number.
