shifting issue missing 5 than 4 went

Could use some help with this, 85 YTM 225 DRN has been a blast over the years, when I got it thought is was a 4 speed, ran great for 3 years, last trip out lost 4th gear. After some reading found out it's a 5speed.

So now it's time to figure out why I'm down 4th & 5th gears. I've got the Clymers manual and shows break down, but not my listed problem. I'm mechanical but never tackled a trans before

Please help me get my gears back. Where to start.

i never had a 225 motor apart but it cant be any worse then any other bottom end to split

clutch disks mabye? the gears slip in my trike and as far as i know thats the problem with mine but your sounds different kind of problem if your losing your upper gears mine slips out of 1st and 2nd but in 3rd and 4th its great.

Well took it apart and found a cam lobe in the oil filter and another piece inside the case, Was the shifting cam. Found the parts and put it together last night and we are back in business baby! 51 dollar fix.
