250SX clutch question

My buddy & I both have 85 250SXs. We were riding about a month ago, and his started to make a strange noise that would slow down at a slower rate than the engine. I leaned more towards the clutch. He told me a few days ago that it's horrible sounding now. I stopped by tonight, and it has chunks of stuff flopping around in the right side engine cover. I think one of the spring towers came loose, and the spring is getting bounced around in there. I'm going to tear it apart this weekend, and hopefully I have most of the parts to fix it. My question would be, did the 250SX have a weak primary or secondary clutch? It sounds like a box of rocks now, and I told him not to start it again until we're done fixing it. Hopefully there isn't much damage other than a few dings on the inside of the case. Who has spare clutch parts? I'll know specifically what I need this weekend.
