So i bent my rim today and the tire now goes flat after riding for a few. I got a pic and am wondering if it is fixable or if anyone has a spare rim around?

take the rim off the bike and beat the ever living "EDITED" out of it with a sledge hammer to straighten it out, if you cant find another rim:naughty:

I have an extra rim from a 85 20sx. $20.00 plus shipping if you want it. It is quite rusty on the inside as someone had slimed it and it had been sitting a long time. No tire. Can get a picture in the morning.

Thats a steel rim and oxy/acet can fix it up fairly easy. I'd just break the bead on that one side and shove something in there to keep it away from the heat.

hublake - is the rim usable or am i going to have to sandblast it to use it?

DC - my father is relatively good with a torch, he looked at it and said it was shot. You really think is fixable? Wouldnt this weaken the rim, bending it that is.

take a piece of 2x4, put it at the top of the bend, then hit it with a heavy hammer until it is close to where it belonged. I have bent rims like that before and the 2x4 did the trick.

The wood will prevent you from denting and hurting the rim while you are banging it back into place....you don't even have to take the rim off of the bike to do this.

The 2x4 method can work good. You can even cut it to have the same curve as the rim so it acts like a die. I've done this for an Explorer fender that was smashed in and it worked well.

Don't be afraid of trying to straighten that rim by hammering on it. It might come back. If it doesn't, it's not like you destroyed anything that wasn't smashed anyway.

If I was using it, I would sandblast it and then paint it. I will get you a couple of pics a bit later this morning.

hublake, do you know anyone who can sandblast it? i am interested.

chrisD and Name Brand - i tried the 2x4 method and couldnt bend it. i got pissed off and then took the hammer to it and still wouldnt budge.

It's right on the lip which will make it tough to bend back but you can with some cheap body tools. A small bottle jack that can fit in the rim will work too or a air hammer with a fat blunt tip. What the hell did you hit?!?!?

I have a sandblaster and could do it but it wouldn't be for a couple of weeks. Got some stuff going on.

Buy the Rim!! Bending back a rim can be done but for $20???:wondering
I have ridden a 3-wheeler with a rim bendt back and it always bounced down the road. It drove poorly and was unsafe at high speed.

My 2 pennies:)

Jim,

PM me your address with Zip and I will get you a shipping cost. I will not be able to do this until Monday as I am going riding this weekend and won't be back until late Sunday. Going to Rose City, MI and gettting together with a bunch of riders for Sandpuppies annual ride.
