can anyone tell me how much oil a 86 tri-z holds. the 85 book said 1.06 us qt. i put 1 us qt in and it spits out the crankcase tube. it spits out 1/2 qt and stops. does not leak any more. i just rebuilt the top end and dont want to blow the crankcase out. i am running 14to 1 oil mix so i should be fine on it . but i amy realy nervous about the rest. please if any one can help let me know.

Hey man,

crankcase tube? Do you know where the oil check bolt is? Your supose to fill it up until oil comes out of the oil check bolt. That is about 1 us qt. Are you putting the oil in the correct spot?

And 14 to 1 is a bit rich, you would be fine around 32 to 1 if you jet it correctly.

Good luck.

The most I have had to put in a Z during routine oil changes was about 8/10th's to 1 qt max.

If you are putting the correct amount in the crankcase,Your water pump seal may have let loose, and pressure is pushing oil out the breather.
Also,if you just rebuilt the bottom end,you could have a leak at the bottom of the engine were the sealer goes,or a bad right side crank seal.

i read the 85 book. it says the check bolt is 2/3rds the way down the right side case. run the bike for 1 minute. turn off let bike sit for a few minutes check bolt. oil should run out that is full. if i do this in this order it blows out. if i remove bolt let oil run out till it stops it does not blow out. i have run the bike for about 15 minutes after that. i don not hear any funny noise but i am still nervus. i am i crazy or what.

I run them, let them sit for 5 mintes, then remove the check plug.It should only drip a drop or two.If it is running out steady stream, after setting for 5 minutes,it is overfull.
