I'm not sure if I put everything back properly when I disassembled my '85 BR rear end to clean and paint. No noises, it bangs the rear end when I shift. I've tried adjusting clutch and still shifts hard. Any help would be appreciated !

First check the tension off the chain.
Check the axle bearing for wear and any loose.
Check the swing arm bearing.

Yea i would say first check the two allen bolts for the chain tensioner and then check the carrier assembly to make sure everythings tightened up

85 big red is shaft drive, right?i recently had a similar problem with my sx and it turned out to be sloppy diff bearings(REAL SLOPPY)i would check that first.then check play in the shaft.

Thanks , Vending Guy. It is definitly shaft driven and I did not replace any bearings while I was in there. It feels more like shaft play, I'll check that also. Thanks again for your input.
