Today i pulled my Big Red out of the garage to degrease the engine and i found a bolt missing on top of the engine, and the other won't tighten down. It looks like they tried to seal around it with silicone. The end of the bolt looks like it may be broken off. I included a pic of the bolt. What are these and what kinda work will be needed to fix it?

I'm at my wits end with this thing....I'm starting to wonder if it might not be better just to try to find a running Big Red and use this one for parts. I'm still getting no spark. I ordered a new coil but haven't recieved it yet.

looks like valve cover bolts to me. If you take the valve cover off you might be able to extract the broken bolts easily. It might be a pain if they're broken off flush, though. If the trike's in decent shape, I wouldn't let this get to me.

those 2 bolts are right at the small bearing area of the cam and are importent

but with stock valve springs it should be ok.....i would take off the valve cover and see whats going on.

even if you only get the one thats missing in if it was mine i would sleep better.

I took the front valve cover off and looked inside- the best i can tell these two bolts hold part of the casing together. So if i want to take the entire valve casing off that means taking the whole engine loose from the frame? I've never done it before so i guess i'd better take it to someone who knows what they're doing. I know a guy that works on these and ATV's, i guess i could get him to take a look.
All i can see right now is $$$$ flying away!
