Today I was out messing around and out riding the ditches here and I got a little bit aways from the house and after a nice smooth 1/8 mile 3rd gear wheelie I noticed the bike started to sputter a tiny bit and didnt pay any attention as I thought it might have run out of fuel a bit in the wheelie and then it just got worse to the point I couldnt go to fast at all. I did manage to limp it home and it idles just fine for the most part. Once it cools down it seems to work just fine again for a bit till it gets warm then starts doing it again.
I dont know what it could be off hand. I am going to try and clean out the card again and see if something is stuck or plugged or something or look into the ignition coil on the frame. I had an old dirt bike that would run fine till the coil would get hot then run bad and sometimes not at all.
It is also starting to blow alot of smoke when you first start it after its been sitting a while and had a chance too cool all the way down. I dont know the history of the motor at all other than when I got it it needed a pulser coil (The one in the stator) and a carb rebuild and a idle mixture screw and after all that its been running great untill today.
Any ideas what to start with let me know so I might have a starting point before I tear into it to much. I am good for that. lol
I just want the motor to last till winter then its rebuild and hop up time. :D

Check for air leaks around the carb.

it could be a number of things like, exciter coil, coil, gas cap not venting, a tooth outta time, or the cam not getting oil a seizing (83-85 X's are known for this problem)

I looked looked for leaks around the carb right away and I could see any and I checked the carb and intake and they are both tight.
The gas cap seems to be venting just fine as I can blow in the vent tube and it blows out the bottom of the cap very easily. I know that in the last few days it will blow a lot of white smoke when it is cold or cooled down a lot but once it warms up the smoke goes away.
The missing is almost like a popping sound and can get really bad at times and is worse the more throttle you give it and it will pop a little when you first let off the gas and are slowing down also.
This only does this once you have been riding for a little bit and it has a chance to warm up real good.
Is the exciter coil the one in the stator? If so that is brand new.
What is the best way to check to see if the cam is not getting enough oil and seizing short of taking it apart to much and does anyone know if there is a fix for this so when I do redo the motor this winter this will not happen down the road and cause problems.
I am going to drain the oil today or tomorrow and see what it looks like. It could use a changing anyways. :)
Thank you everyone for your help so far. :D

Are you running an inline fuel filter??
Many people don't run inline filters and they really help when you have a 22yo steel tank.
You were wheelying around and I wonder if you just stirred up some junk from the tank and plugged up a jet. Have you taken the carb off, removed all the jets and cleaned it thoroughly?? Can't hurt anyhow....

if it runs fine when cold but sputters when hot, id look into electrical connections being tight and start ohm'ing out the coil

Did you change the plug?
Sounds to me like its a valve sticking or not seating right.
As far as electrical, i would start with the CDI box. The box on my 250R was bad, and it would run fine until it got the slightest bit warm, then it would miss so bad it was a pain to keep running at all.
What color is the smoke? blue/white or black?
Also, while its idling, that a can of WD 40 and spray around the intake. Listin for the bike to change is sound (rev up or die), This will let you know if theres any leaks.

The smoke is white. Once its warmed up though it stops smoking. It didnt start smoking until this problem started either. I have not had a chance to mess with it in the last few days cause of work but hopefully I will have a chance in the next day or so.
Any way to check the cdi box to see if its bad or not short of just changing it? I am leaning towards the CDI/Coil myself right now. I will try a few things mentioned and report back as soon as I have time to mess with it. :)
Again, thank you everyone.

i have something similar going on with my 86 200sx, it will run okay when cold, as it warms up it will bog and miss at anything past 1/3 throttle, i have messed with the needle clip throughout the ranges, it will start smoking whitish, and then eventually i will go to gas it and POP, the bike dies instantly and there is tons of white smoke billowing out the intake
