I know zero about twist throttles. I honestly think that they will be the end of me when i finally use one.
I am putting my stock 85 250r carb on my 86tecate. It has the stock twist throttle, or so im told. I need to know what cable to buy to go from the stock twist throttle to a keihin type carb cable.
I have next to nothing experience wise with the tecate, and usually i like to figure out this stuff for myself, but my trike is in NH right now, and I would like to have most of the stuff to get it running when I get it back home in a week.
Please let me know if anyone has done this before.
Thanks,
Mike

it may work fine. the cables are ussually have all the same end where they fit in the carb slide. the cable just may not fit in the cap correctly.
on my zilla, i used a cr twist throttle with a cr250r cable. i've had both mikuini and kehin carbs with that cable both worked fine.
if you couldn't get it to work, you can get a universal twist throttle for about $20. comes with a cable and twist assembly

It should work fine as sblt mentioned... If not get a cable from a '88 or newer KX...

I compared my 250r cable with the spare tecate cable - same ends that will work but the R cable was shorter total length by maybe 2-3 inches.

oh ok cool...even the threaded part where it threads into the thumb throttle is the same?
how about lengths. How long is the cable sheath in compared to each other...Like 2 inches longer for the tecate? Or are you talking actual cable length.
Say.....
If the r cable is 48 inches sheath, 50 inches cable
and the tecate cable is 50 inches sheath and 52 inches cable
i bet they would switch up fine. Guess time will tell.
THanks guys

update, cable didnt work.
a stock 250r cable would work fine but the threaded piece that threads into the thumb throttle is too big to fit into the twist throttle on the tecate.
So i need a cable that is just like the stock r cable but has a smaller diameter threaded piece that threads into the twist.
Get me???? any help???
Thanks,.

Can't you just change the adjuster? (The threaded piece)

just put your R thumber on there to test and tune and i will give the tecate twister cable when we meet up in late august. That sounds like the fix to me.

the tecate twist cable should fit the 250r carb fine. i thought that was what you were gonna do. the 250r thumb cable won't be long enough to fit in the twist anyways. thumb cables are ussually shorter.

stock tecate cable wont work, has to do where the cable enters the top of the carb

well just to follow up, i went and bought this.

the cable end for the carb looks right for the stock r carb, which is the same as pwk's and such so I should be all set.
Thanks for all of your help on this guys. Now i just need to find the needle clip that I shot across the garage and I should have a runner soon.
