I am spending a couple weeks here in China for work. Thought I would give you guys an idea of what the 3-wheelers look like over here.
All of the pictures in the following couple posts are common everyday sights. I took almost all of these in a very short time, while standing on a couple street corners in front of my hotel.
Being a 6-foot tall white guy, I do tend to draw a lot of stares and pointing from children.
Huangdao is like street legal trikefest 24/7. Hope you enjoy it.

Most of these are 110 Lifans. These are everwhere and haul everything. Yesterday, I saw one hauling a living room set (couch, love seat, chair and coffee table - stacked!)

Trucks, cars, vans, scooters, bicycles..... it makes no difference.
If you are Chinese, you gotta be on 3
Nice way to haul your baby through heavy traffic, too.

Motorcycles afford many 3-up riding opportunities. They love going 3-up on 90 and 110cc bikes.
Women wear skirts and always ride sidesaddle on the back of motorcycles and bikes.
Whole families (dad, mom, kid) ride 3-up on cycles - didn't get a picture of that today though. There will be more to come as the week goes on.

I just love signs like this one in my hotel.
No shampoo in the shower, just "wash hair milk."
For breakfast "roast bread and fried bowel" (toast and sausage).

Here is the view from out of my hotel room. Makes devil's backbone look like a bunny hill. Haven't seen anyone try it yet, though.

One last question.
Anyone want to guess the purpose of this thing beside my bed?

Most people over there would think your insane going around taking photos of everything you see that has 3 wheels

I wonder how stable that little 3 wheeler truck is.

I thought maybe it was a bathrobe hanger, towel rack, ashtray combo unit.

Me too. I don't see them lean when they go around turns.

They DO have dunes in Mongolia called "the steppe." No wheelers though, only goats and sheep.

I just had dinner at an "American" place. The owner, an American, pulled up on a Shadow 750 replica.... by far the biggest bike in the city. He had to import it from Beijing - many hours away.

Is there any street legal ATCs?

keister
07-13-2008, 08:15 PM
I have not seen an ATC, but everything (apparently including tractors and home made jalopies) is street legal here.

Any system that seeks punishment of an individual for "wrongs" committed against noone but the law itself is not interested in peace or equality, but in being able to control and manipulate it's citizens.

This has nothing to do with the thread, but thats the truest thing i heard in awhile.

You can legally drive a tractor on the road here but they're usually only seen in country areas and everyone gets pissed off because they only travel at like 20 KM/H

Sure, but you wouldn't pull out onto Highway 110 in Baton Rouge with this would you?
I took this one this AM on the way to work.

Willy Peepers - forget the sleep - come hang out - drink - eat potato salad with a real live Canadian - and ride trikes. You can sleep the jet lag off later in the week and call off sick!

A sweet dumper bed trike
How NOT to haul cylinders for your cutting rig (tie downs optional)
And more 3-up street riding

Gotta give points for originality.
This isn't some farmer's garage, this is at my multi-national, half-billion dollar a year company.

Ingenuity at its finest right there! Maybe since the Chinese copy everything else we make so well they could copy the hammer? Really it's a simple tool that works well. lol hahah

There are a few. I saw a Cherokee Sport and a 4-Runner this morning (they have different names here).

Buick seems to be the status symbol car here (like Cadillac in the US). Here is the van our company owns to get us around. I think the Chinese division of Buick missed the point on the badge though (3.0V6LT). :wondering

Is it a 3 valve 6 liter engine? Surely they meant 3.0 liter V6, but hey, who will ever notice, right???

Very few individuals own cars, and the ones that do have no idea how to drive them. We grew up riding in cars with our parents, they didn't. Now, half a billion people are all learning to drive at the same time, on crowded streets. I see wrecks (fatal type crashes, not fender benders, literally daily).

Here is the parking lot at work. Even the higher paid employees like engineers and managers take the bus. If they don't walk or take a bus, they park in one of these two places.

BTW the thing next to the hotel bed is it for placing your shoes on?
I've always wondered how the chinese can sell some things on ebay and make a profit. I just paid 4.28 for an anti-bark collar with free shipping. where the profit in that?

I've always wanted to move to China only because you don't get laughed at for doing 30 on a moped with no helmet and flip flops.
