shaft is less maintenance, but maintenance will be expensive if they werent taken decent care of. Also, you cannot change the gearing on a shaft drive like you can with sprockets. I have both and I prefer the shaft on utility trikes.

If I could chose to have shaft or chain on any possible trike I would take shaft. Less maintenance and it never goes too loose or tight and it cant get flicked off by stones and the like.

chain is the only way to go
cheaper, more efficient, gearing changes
keep it lubes and keep the slack adjusted right and youll never have problems. You also need to make sure rear axle and swinger bearings are tight.

i have both of them and i would have t say i like my 200es way better then my 200e , i like the reverse . i love not getting stuck out some where with a broke chain or haven to tighten the chain up after ever other ride lol , i say go shaft , just do the Maintenance on it ...

Chain all the way. Cheaper, gearing change, and if it breaks, its easy to fix.

it is a million reasons one way and a million the other but fo rme honestly i say it depends on what the trike is beign used for?

I'd say these 200's hardly have any torque, snapping a chain would probably be unlikely

they have abit. I snapped a chain on my 200cc dual purpose 2 wheeler. What are the main differences between the 200E and the ES? I think the E has back up pull starter and the es has a back up kick starter and shaft.
