I broke my parking brake yesterday on my 1984 ATC 200X (used too big an o-ring and in broke into 2 pieces when tightened  ) I looked at Bike Bandit and a couple of other places to see about ordering another one, but thos sites say "part no longer available".. They do still sell the parking brake for the 1986-87 200X. My question to those "in the know" is this: will a parking brake for the 1986-87 200X fit the older 1983-85 model caliper, or was there a change in caliper design that would prohibit this??:wondering I know I can get a plate to block this off, but I would really rather try and keep the parking brake a working feature.. Thanks!!~Brett~

check the parts numbers on the 86 350x and 250r, i was thinking they are the same.

The (parking brake) part numbers for the 1986 350X & 250R are the same as the 1986-87 200X {142601-001 on Bike Bandit}. Same goes for the 1983-85 250R, the parking brake part number is the same as the 1983-85 200X {142598-001 }. The difference in part numbers begins in the 1986-87 models. Again, I know they made some significant design changes with all the Honda ATC's in the 1986 year, but am unsure if those changes were made on the brake caliper and its individual parts. I do know the pads for the 1986-87 calipers have the same part number as the 1983-85's, but am curious to see if anyone out there can say they know if other parts (the parking brake in particular) are interchangeable from the "OLD" caliper (1983-85) with the "new" 1986-87 calipers. As I currently understand it, the brake parts for the 1986-87 350x, 200x, and 250R are interchangeable and have matching part numbers. The 1983-85 200x, 250R and 1985 350X also have matching part numbers for brake parts and are interchangeable, but will an 86' parking brake fit on an old 84' caliper??

i would think it would work since all trikes and quads ....well 98% anyway.....all use the same block off plate to get ride of the parking brake

look for the brake assembely and cable off a 300ex or 250x quad they are almos identical to the 200x's

I too would ditch the parking brake, I've never seen ONE that didn't get all corroded and seized in time.

But, if you must, I find the only difference in these calipers is the mounting and or bleeder orientation. Other than that, all the pistons etc use the same orings and dust rings. The only other difference I've run into is the length or style of the larger slide pin. Some are longer, and some are shorter and get a "cap" over the end of them rather than a protruding allen style bolt head.....

1upfront uses front brake calipers on the rear of his air cooled Rs. I'm not sure exactly how he does it but it gets rid of the need for a block off plate also. It gives it a cleaner look.

is the parking brake what the lever on the left side of the handle bars is for? My bike only has the lever on the right for the front brake.

Just a quick followup on this topic: The parking brake for the 86 and 87 200X WILL bolt right on to the 83-85 200X rear caliper. They did however change the direction of thread on the bolt labled "shaft L {a.3a}" (which the cable turns against the brake pistion when activated) on schematic @ bike bandit. Soo..The shaft for the older parking brake (1983-85) will NOT work in the newer 1986-87. If you feel you must (as I do/did) replace a broken parking brake off the older 1983-85 ATC 200X in keeping it "original", you can use/order an OEM for the 1986-87 to retro-fit the 1983-85 200X, just be sure to also order the bolt labeled "Shaft L {a.3a}" and a new O-Ring to fit the 1986-87 parking brake. The angle of the cable holder is slightly different on the newer parking brake vs the 1983-85, but should work okay, I will post if any problems occur when I get the bolt and finish this part of my restore before the OTC Jamboree in August!!.
