I got a 1983 ATC70. It looked to be in desent shape, and the engine looked runable easy.

Long story short, turns out the engine could use replacing, So i am looking at replacement options, cheap.

I think it would be awesome to have a manual clutch, 4 speed 70. My question is, did Honda make a manual clutch 70? Or are the ones ive heard about only lifan engines on the 70 frames. With the A+ 70 frames, i would like to think that Honda did make manual clutch 70s.

Aren't the CT70 bike engines manual?
Not positive, but maybe something to look into.

Most ct 70s are auto clutch. I do think they made a few with manual clutch but trying to find one is easier said than done. If you look on ebay long enough you might find a good deal.
I converted my sons ct70 to manual clutch a few months ago. I found an sl 70 engine on ebay that wasn't running for cheap and used the parts from that to convert it. The good thing about the honda 50 & 70 engines is that almost all of the parts on them will interchange. The engine that is on his ct is a z50 engine with an 88cc big bore cylinder on it. A few years ago the shifter lobe broke on it and we got a junk bottom end from a friend for parts. Only problem was that the 50 was a 3 speed and the bottom end was a 4 speed. After some careful observation we decided that the cases looked identical on the inside , the only thing that was different was the gears and such. So we swapped everything out. It all worked out perfectly. We even did it without the aid of a manual.
I have never worked on or used a lifan engine so I can't say much about them but if it were me I would be looking for a Honda engine with a manual clutch to rebuild. It can be done.
By the way the ct worked out great with the manual clutch, it was just a little hard to get used to after years of riding it with the autoclutch. That was about the only thing that I rode at Trikefest.

Are the CT70/50 engines bolt ins for the ATC70? I would really like to keep the ATC a true ATC by running a Honda engine.

I know the trail 50/70 shares a lot of parts with the ATC70. So if i find a trail 70/50 or CT70/50, can i put the clutch stuff on the ATC 70 engine?

I'm not sure if the z50 ct70 engines will bolt right in to the atc you can convert an atc to manual clutch. It is just a side cover and the internals that go with the clutch. Plus the lever and cable. Don't just look for ct stuff look for stuff for all of the 70s, you'll have better luck.

yes it will bolt in. you will have to push start it unless you go without rear plastic or remove it all the time. as far as the CT70 manual clutch question, it was available in 1970 and 1971 and they are rare. unfortunately the lifan may be your best option because you can buy them with electric start.

I dont want electric start, at least not just electric start. I always like to have a backup.

I managed to get the 70 engine running and riding today, so all this is just for future possibilities , and im sure someone will find it helpful.
