yesterday me and 2 mates went on a trail ride (the longest ive ever been on) wayy up the Waimak river. After ages of riding my chain came off (this taking a while as first time 4 the 200s since my ownership of it and had 2 remove the guard) so we put it back on then 2 secs later it came off again. So we put it back on but then decided 2 get my mate to tow me home on the lt160(he had also dubbed another mate of mine thru the trails) so my other mate hopped on the back of the trike with me. Then after about 20 minutes of towing the chain was still on so my we stopped and i put the chain back on. Then after about 40 min my mate with the quad had 2 floor it home coz he was going out 4 tea at 6 and it was about 5.30 at the time and i couldnt floor it coz of my high rev miss. So my other mate decided to hop on the back of the trike again and we went on our way. Then i ran outta gas and had 2 stop. So i refilled it with the extra tank that i carry and we were on our way for 2 seconds and the chain came off an it did this about 5 times. So we parked the trike in the forest under a heap of scrub & were going to walk for help. There was a road next to us but no houses for atleast 4km. Then we walked back down as if we were heading home. Luckily some quad riders who live in my street were also down and were heading home from were they were riding and gave me and my mate a lift. The trike stayed in the forest all night but we picked it up today and it started fine.

Now im working on cutting the chain guard off as the chain is caught up in some of it and after that im going to tighten the chain. If we werent picked up by those people we probably would have stayed there all night as hardly anyone goes down that road and me and my mate didnt have cellphones. That was pretty lucky that they picked me up and that the bike was still there when we went back to pick it up.

the day before the ride i took it for a little ride around the tracks and my gear shifter lost its teeth. So i took one off my 200cc dual purpose chinese bike and this is what it turned out like

I kick the shifter backwards to go up a gear and forwards to go down

i put it on there the morning of the trail ride because we were all eager for a good trail ride and it wouldnt work in the normal position as it would just hit the round thing that the pullstart rope is in and i rekon it works better like that with my new mx boots afew times ive got it stuck in between gears when using my mx boots to change gears with the stock shifter

new chain and sprockets would probably help the popping issue. Your front sprocket is shot, i never let mine get that worn.

Is it cheap to replace the front sprocket? There is no overly worn teeth on the back sprocket.

Around 8 bucks from rockymountain atv for a cheap one. If any of the teeth are hooked on the back sprocket I would get a new one. Also alot of people around here just buy new front sprockets and use the old chain, and end up with another worn sprocket in a couple weeks. Just get a cheap sprocket kit with rear, chain, and front. It will last a long time if you keep it lubed and tightened. The problem could be you chain was severely stretched too.

The chain seems in good nick same with the rear sprocket but i will see how much i could pick up all 3 for the chain came off the back sprocket all the time I dont think it came off the front at all. The chains been loose since I got the bike but never got around to tightening it until it actually caused problems. But i think ive learned now not to go out riding with a chain that loose because i almost could have stayed at the river over night and afew months ago a 15 year old girl was raped and killed at the waimak (she was found right on one of the 4wd off tracks that we ride thru)

Waimak, with the front sprocket in that bad of shape, you need to replace all 3 items. I wouldn't recommend riding that trike until you do. If that chain flys off and piles up around the front sprocket, it can do some serious damage and you will be on a steep learning curve regarding broken engine cases, busted output shafts and broken tranny gears. Just my .02.

Yeah what freewheel said, once the front gets that bad the chain is almost guarenteed worn, even if it dosent look it.

this is bullshit i rung up my local honda part stockist (Rangiora Honda) and they tell me that i can only get a front sprocket from them that comes with the shaft that connects to the motor (the guy seemed amazed at the fact they still sell brand new parts and have them instore for trikes)and it is $140 and thats the only way they will sell it to me. I might take the sprocket into a motorbike shop and see if they have a replacement for that.

yea its bullshit my mate rung up the local suzuki shop to enquire about a hole set of the 3 for his lt160 and it was only $115 maybe he misunderstood me or something. Il just take the sprocket in somewere and see if anyone has a replacement. Im sure some newer bikes would also share that same sprocket
